(Just curious as an October person who was held in the first hold wave)

Do you mean you aren't complete? Because once you're complete, there are no more status changes.aboutmydaylight wrote:I'm still not under review...submitted late January.

FWIW I was a late January submit, complete a week ago and was held today. Stats >50% both.

...so for those of us that managed to slip through the cracks on the held wave that hit today, does that mean our fate is sealed with a ding within the next few days?

Maybe, but I don't think that should be over-stated. CLS has been looking to drop class size a bit. They probably predicted 360-365 and wound up with 352. Not exactly a game changer.drawstring wrote:Any idea why CLS is yield protecting like this? Do you think it was the last minute exodus of people last year?jbagelboy wrote:Helds - don't give up!
From the looks of it and the number of late applicants being held, seems like a combination of more YP than usual, and a realization that the class could fill faster than anticipated from ED and the first few waves. Last year Columbia let a decent number of people in as late as April without reserve, and definitely substantial motion post-reserve in May/June as well.
Our numbers are good and only getting better, so I doubt the admissions office is truly panicking with the yield protection here. Then again, it is getting easier to get into Harvard with so few high scorer's and most people will choose Cambridge over Morningside when given the two options at comparable cost. That surely doesn't escape them. But just from the reactions on this thread, this cycle definitely seems like a different animal from last year. There are always some 174+'s/3.8+'s getting hit with reserve but this is more than usual.
I hope they don't fuck up the yield, but who knows? I'm trusting that they are doing their best to gauge who will take the named schollies and who will most likely accept the offer of admission without huge $$. I mean, Penn and UVA have been pulling this garbage for years - interview process is like a "Why Columbia" essay. If I were you I'd expect a TON of late game action, i.e. April and May. That's why I'm saying: hold tight! And don't let the process ruin you on the school, be it cls or hls or otherwise. No one remembers this crap a year later, I promise.

I asked someone who would know, but about other schools, they said, "yes."JSWright101 wrote:As a bit of an insider, do you know if they give scholarship money to those they accept off of the hold in the cases of the +75ths on both measures?jbagelboy wrote:Maybe, but I don't think that should be over-stated. If they've had your app for a while I wouldn't expect a ding. Either we are headed right to the reserve or the in pile. I'm going to choose to believe in the latter. Good luck!!herrowww wrote:...so for those of us that managed to slip through the cracks on the held wave that hit today, does that mean our fate is sealed with a ding within the next few days?

How many wait lists does cls have? What's the difference between a hold and a wait list? Thanks

I've been complete for 2 months now so they've certainly had enough time to look my file over.. Guess we might as well be optimistic until that email or DLS shows up.gbelle wrote:If they've had your app for a while I wouldn't expect a ding. Accepted applicant checking in.
GPA above Median, LSAT above 75th. Admitted early March. Complete in late February. Notified via email with PDF attachment of acceptance letter.
Best of luck to everyone. I know how tough waiting is, as I'm still in limbo with each of HYS. Hopefully we all hear good news soon!

Does Columbia interview everyone or just some applicants?

They're playing around adding interviews to their admissions. It's completely random. You cannot ask to be interviewed - they really want it to be random.aboutmydaylight wrote:Does Columbia interview everyone or just some applicants?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
