Okay so someone needs to share in my rage here.
Applied Early Decision. waited three months. Was deferred. waited three more months.
...WAIT LISTED. This is a bad punchline, right? April Fool's joke? At least reject me so I can move the hell on, right?
did this happen to ANYONE else, or am I the lone bastard stuck in a very short line of one near-reject?

Isn't it a little embarrassing for Penn that they have to do this? They're the 7th ranked school; do they really feel like they have no shot of getting people with these higher stats? It's pretty damning to their reputation (and UVA's) that they would rather game the numbers than admit the most qualified class possible.

yeah and why not just offer more $$ and levys to higher numbers instead of YPing? I'm sure a lot of people above their 75ths, but below HYS and Ruby/Vanderbilt/Hamilton, would take a Levy given the chance.liammial wrote:Isn't it a little embarrassing for Penn that they have to do this? There were a lot of WL people above both 75ths saying the same thing about how they would've gone to UVA with money.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what "higher" stats are you seeing today? As Penn's GPA median is 3.87, the higher LSAT applicants looked like splitters to me. I didn't see anyone above both 75ths (3.94 and 171)liammial wrote:Isn't it a little embarrassing for Penn that they have to do this? I'm beginning to think that people don't realize how high Penn's median gpa is (3.89 according to 509 report).lastsamurai wrote:Maybe I'm missing something, but what "higher" stats are you seeing today? These WL are not statistically surprising.

I think many of these people are surprised by the WL because they have gotten in to better ranked law schools; it certainly looks like YP if you've been accepted to CCN (often with $) and/or HYS and you get a WL from Penn.ohpobrecito wrote:I'm beginning to think that people don't realize how high Penn's median gpa is (3.89 according to 509 report).lastsamurai wrote:Maybe I'm missing something, but what "higher" stats are you seeing today? Waitlisted today. GPA 4.xx, LSAT @ 75th. Wrote a Why Penn.
I was somewhat expecting this since I haven't heard from them in a long time. I will be withdrawing.

Re: Penn c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 cycle)
I agree - pretty much all schools YP to some degree, which Penn has definitely done this cycle. But a very high LSAT and below median GPA isn't YP. It seems to me that Penn may just put more stock in GPA than some of the higher ranked schools.lastsamurai wrote:Maybe I'm missing something, but what "higher" stats are you seeing today? All I can say as someone at or above both 75ths who was admitted is 1) apply early 2) write a Why Penn.
If you didn't do both of those things, I think the whining is unwarranted. If you did and have been admitted to better ranked schools, then yes you were likely YP'd, and I understand why you're upset.

did this happen to ANYONE else, or am I the lone bastard stuck in a very short line of one near-reject?. If it makes you feel remotely better, this is exactly what happened to me for Undergrad, and I ended up getting in off the waitlist in early May; so if you decide to stick it out, you still might get in!
oh man that makes me feel so much better. not even kidding. Thank you. I'm going to stay on the wait list I guess, it's just super cruel to go nearly 7 months without a real and final decision. I'm glad this has happened to others. (well not really, i wouldn't wish it on anyone)

I'm not whining; I'm going somewhere better anyway. But it is clear the Penn and UVA YP considerably more than do the rest of the Top 14.
