Not I, and Sophia Sim had responded to me (after a month of waiting....) just a day before the update... so she's clearly still alive.

I sent an email LOCI to the person my waitlist email said should be my direct contact and got a response. Should I have sent that somewhere else as well? Or are you guys just sending to your contact?

I'm pretty sure Cornblatt's email said to get in touch with your contact. I sent mine on Tuesday night and no response yet.

I'm starting to get the feeling there's nothing actually special about the SPWL. Georgetown's just trying to make us all feel like winners when in fact we have lost.

Aside from the fact that people on the previous SPWL round already reported getting in? It can't be all bad.

Someone inquired a few months ago and the admissions office said there were only about 20 people on it. The numbers don't really support that estimation.

I'm not sure how many are on the SPWL, but I think the addition of new people is simply a function of the cycle inevitably generating more applications. That is, more rejections, more acceptances, and more placed on the Regular, Preferred and Special Preferred waiting lists. So, the fact that more folks are being placed on the SPWL here in March may just be proportional to the amount being placed on the other waitlists. There is no reason to believe that the SPWL had a cap on how many could be placed on it. Perhaps you guys just got chosen for this SPWL early on in the process is all.

I sent my LOCI on the eveningof the 24th (just realized after receiving the SPWL email back in early february that it said i was supposed to hear something back on the 25th of march). I got the form response letter from my contact on the 25th, and also the form "no updates yet" update on the 25th.

Buuut, I just got back to school from spring break, and in my mailbox is an acceptance letter from Georgetown, dated the 25th!! So I think I sent my LOCI a bit late, and got the form updates, but it definitely made a difference -- On my letter was a handwritten note that mentioned specific programs that I had talked about in my LOCI (but not in my original application).

Dumb question...I know that in one of the emails, they said to keep them informed of any upcoming travel plans. Should I let them know that I'm going to be gone most of the next 2 weeks and have a deposit deadline shortly thereafter? I don't want to sound like I expect them to give a shit, but they were the ones to mention it initially...

Pretty sure they did in mine, too. I'm just trying to figure out how to say this without sounding like a little self-entitled brat. I have to inform them of an address change pretty soon, so I'm thinking of just sending everything in the same email.

just withdrew from the preferred preferred waitlist.

basically asked them about the likelihood, if any, i would receive $ if i get if the waitlist...the answer is not likely aka 0 chance.

made no sense to stay on the waitlist when i have a $75,000 offer from uva, nevertheless it broke my heart i really wanted to go to georgetown

basically asked them about the likelihood, if any, i would receive $ if i get if the waitlist...the answer is not likely aka 0 chance.

made no sense to stay on the waitlist when i have a $75,000 offer from uva, nevertheless it broke my heart i really wanted to go to georgetown

So that's the official answer? I may vacate my spot as well then

I asked them if it was at all possible to match the scholarship offer from UVA, they responded

"Thanks for your e-mail, and I'm sure this was not an easy decision.

Fyi, the highest award we typically offer is $25,000, and that is
unusually high for us--most of our larger scholarships are a combination
of need and merit based. Also, we've already made our initial round of
offers, so it's unlikely we will have anything close to that amount of
funding and not in the time frame that you specify.

So, based upon your requirements, realistically, I don't see us being
able to offer you admission and a $25,000 scholarship by April 30.
We'll go ahead and withdraw you from the waitlist. I'm sorry that this
didn't work out, and I really do wish you the best at Charlottesville."

It could be that they are willing to give out smaller amounts, but it doesn't sound like their worried about providing financial aid to the waitlisters

I also just noticed that in the Program menu it only lists PT when I originally applied for both (actually I was originally FT only then asked to be considered for PT as well after I was WL'ed). Hmmmm.
