You know, I'd go to an ASD if I were an admitted student... but alas, I am still waiting on good ol' Pitt.

My cycle has been a little weird, though not unexpected with the larger applicant pool. Any thoughts as to whether I can expect to add Pitt to my list of WLs?

Well, for whomever is going to ASD, myself and my fiance are planning on staying friday night so we can see the city and go for some social beverages...

anyone who is going to be around should feel free to partake... We are likely going to have to deal with one another for the next three years anyways so might as well make it tolerable...lol

we have been to the city a few times and have a general idea about where to go but we def need to do some more homework...

Did anyone else get the Innovative Practice Institute e-mail this morning? As someone currently in advertising/marketing it sounds absolutely fascinating.

Admissions update: I called to check if my file had gone under review yet (complete 1/28 I believe)--it has not. She was really nice and seemed happy to hear from me (I got the email last Thursday thanking me for my patience and saying my file was currently being considered). She said "so you sound like you are still interested in Pittsburgh?" "Yes, very interested"-I said. She said she would make a note in my file right away as the admissions group will be meeting tomorrow to make some more decisions and that I should be hearing really soon. Just thought those still waiting would like to know--sounds like we should be hearing really soon!

I wrote one of the admissions ladies an e-mail yesterday about something similar but haven't received a response. I was thinking of calling, but I am not a phone guy and don't really know what I'd say.

To Anyone familiar with Pittsburgh area:

How are the areas around "Friendship Park" and "Lawrenceville"?

(In terms of "quality of life" and whether or not you can expect to be stabbed on a regular basis)

Gentrifying as we speak. I gather those areas used to be kinda run down. Lawrenceville is pretty lively and trendy these days(lotsa hipsters). Friendship is kinda the same way....a bit less trendy I guess. It gets a little sketchy over by Penn ave, and Lawrenceville gets sketchy above 45th street or so.
Even in the good ends of those neighborhoods, there's still crime. They're not what I'd consider dangerous...but then, I'm from the Bronx and NJ.
Quality of life....Friendship is a quick busride to school, and you're near Liberty Ave which is a pretty cool main drag.
In Lawrenceville, Butler Ave is pretty hopping, but I think the bus situation to school would be a pain. Rent there is getting expensive (for Pittsburgh) from what I understand.

I have some friends that live in Lawrenceville and they seem to like it. Like much of Pittsburgh, it's like a small town with it's own main st. I enjoy the bars there. It's close enough to campus for a short commute and it's within reasonable walking distance to Mr.Smalls, which is an awesome music venue.

I wouldn't want to raise kids there, but I wouldn't worry about getting stabbed either.

I live in Lawrenceville and I love it! It is definitely crawling with hipsters but it has a lot of successful young professionals as well. The area has become very trendy and as a result, rents continue to climb but it is still very affordable when compared with trendy areas of other cities. If you wanted to buy a house while you were in school, this would be the place to do it. In 10 years, you would double your money.

anyone think that I could use a big scholarship from Seton Hall (ranked slightly lower than Pitt) to bump my Pitt scholly? I'm guessing no

It's worth a shot. I used a big one from Seton Hall and a few offers from t3 schools to leverage a small scholly out of Pitt.

I still haven't heard from Pitt. I know it hasn't been that long, only a month, but I'm starting to get worried.

Yeah I noticed that. We are trying to stick to newer townhouses and condos. Most of the single family homes are bigger than what we need and/or just extremely outdated/old.

Good for you, man. Did they give you any indication that they had made a decision? They told when I was under review, and responded to a question the first time I sent an additional e-mail, but not this past time. Very frustrating.

I got an email about a week ago telling that I was still under review and to be patient basically. I also emailed them a couple times throughout the process.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
