Hi
Didn't see anyone talk about this here. Did anyone notice that Columbia moved away from traditional "why Columbia" essay to an essay about how the applicant will contribute to the school?

Hmm, granted, I don't remember what the wording of the instructions was last year, but the "why Columbia" essay and an essay about how an applicant will contribute to the school are separate things - one is a "why X" essay and the other is the DS. I don't think they've "moved away" from anything (though perhaps they are highlighting their interest in a DS more?).

ETA: This is assuming I'm looking at what you're actually referring to. The instructions I'm looking at say, "Applicants, if they wish, may submit brief supplemental statements that will provide useful information to the Admissions Committee in evaluating the application. The Committee especially welcomes addenda that allow it to understand the contribution your personal background would add to the Columbia Law School community."

Yes- they are different. Nowhere in the app does it offer a why Columbia essay. So you're only option here is a diversity statement not a "why X". Is this correct? Am I missing something?

The prompt says "especially welcomes" addenda on your diversity contribution. So that does not exclude the why Columbia. You can attach more than one file. That's clear with the "supplemental statement(s)" language in the intro. I just think they didn't use the specific why language but that does not mean you can't do it. You can also incorporate it into your PS.
Fair point. I hear what you're saying. You can do either one (or both) but they "especially welcome" a DS. Thanks for your help.

We all love each other now. The boards are at peace.

Has anyone gotten a fee waiver yet? Should I just wait until the October LSAT comes out?
