All done (according to Twitter). Show's over folks. Time to say farewell to New Haven-induced anxiety until next year. Congrats to the admits!

Thanks, Phyr! If you look at the join dates, do you also have an estimate of about how many were admitted in each round so far?Phyr wrote:Just put my stats in

Looks like there are 2 deferrals,
Around 10 offers 12/12, 10 on 12/18, and 10 on 12/22.
These are all from the facebook group so there is a small chance there are admitted students who aren't represented here.

I don't use Facebook, so the FB group undercounts by at least one.
I received my Yale package this morning. It's a spiffy blue binder. I think it's largely just a printout of the digital handouts. The only thing different as far as I can tell is my admissions letter.
ETA: There's also a New Haven magazine and map at the end in a clear file.

Just wanted let all the lucky admits thus far know that the accepted class page is up for those who want to discuss professors/classes/clinics/all that stuff. And I updated (and added a couple) all the helpful links from last year's page (since YLS updated their site).

Re: Yale c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Idle thought I've been having:
Normally when you look at the admissions graphs on mylsn (http://mylsn.info/r/pre-law/admissions/graph/), there is a clear indication of strategy. For example, Columbia doesn't care all that much about your GPA as long as you have more than a 170ish, while Harvard has a clear frontier that takes into account both GPA and LSAT.
Yale works somewhat like Harvard, except there's a weird bulb of higher rejection rates from around [172,3.86] to [176,3.93]. It's pretty clear when you open up the graph (I can't post screenshots yet).
Any thoughts on why this is? It may just be noise, given the spottier acceptance data. But, maybe there's a minor correlation between that number range and weaker softs? Maybe there's actually something preferable about splitters in those ranges?

Re: Yale c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I highly doubt there's any noticeable correlation with grades/LSAT and softs at all. You have to remember that there are far less admissions to YLS than Harvard and similar schools. I mean, we're dealing with 300 total applications and like 50 admissions in this graph. This bulb is formed by around 10 admissions, clearly that can just be a coincidence, but I think the numbers of the bulb and surrounding area are relevant as well. Someone with a 3.86 and a 172 is around both 25ths. Barring some exceptional softs, they are very unlikely to get in, so that's not surprising. Meanwhile, someone with a 3.94 and a 172 is above one median, meaning that their softs can come more into play and the professor can feel more comfortable choosing someone they like/find interesting. The same goes for that person with a 3.85/175. A candidate really needs to be above one median and still within acceptable range of the other if they do not have any truly incredible softs. When you're a "splitter" like that, that's when your softs come in. Meanwhile, if you're below both medians, you have to have something like a Rhodes to have a shot. If you're at both medians or just above them, you're not such a goldmine to get in on your grades, and if you fail to impress the faculty reviewers, you may well get a rejection letter. High numbers are a necessary condition, but by no means sufficient.mdnyc wrote:Idle thought I've been having:

At the end of the day, all this graph shows me is that softs seem to matter less once you reach a certain number threshold (namely 3.96+, 176+).

Re: Yale c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Posting to say hi! Eventually I will get around to submitting my Yale app, and then maybe even get to join in to the c/o 2019 page. Been browsing all the info there, lots of good stuff.
With reference to the posts above me, the breakdown of "bulbs" is giving me a bit more confidence. My softs are fairly average, and I honestly have no clue how good my letters of recommendation are (did my best, but as a transfer student it's very difficult to build strong relationships with professors). I keep hearing that Yale is pretty much the one school you can't crack with numbers, but hey, if they do take 75/75 into consideration, maybe I've got a solid shot!

No way I'll get in to Yale, but I'd be happy to help anyone out with their 250 Essays.
You all actually give me good ideas and insight on what to write and not write if I apply to schools again next cycle

Re: Yale c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I have a LOR question about Yale. I'm submitting 2 academic LORs. I know Asha wrote on her blog that academic LORs are strongly preferred. But I have 1 LOR from my boss that, according to him, should be really good. Would submitting an employer LOR (for my 3rd rec) hurt, help, or have no effect on my application? Gracias in advance!

as long as the LOR is strong, I don't see any harm in submitting it. I submitted 3 LORs

That's reassuring. I guess I'll submit the 3rd employer rec. Thanks!Phyr wrote:as long as the LOR is strong, I don't see any harm in submitting it. I submitted 3 LORs
