Re: Held at Northwestern c/o 2017
I don't mean for this to come off as harsh as it might sound, but the collective energy in here is kind of pointlessly wound up right now. We all know we're going to hear something relatively soon, and we will find out well before the majority of second deadlines are due... so what's the rush? Johann tweeting about someone's video is undoubtedly harmless, meant as a joke (sadly, at someone's expense, but they brought it upon themselves, clearly) and does not in any way imply they're not mostly* done reviewing the hold applicants.
*People drop off of waiting lists all the time, and most of those people aren't refreshing Johann's twitter feed every 90 seconds. If some of the potential admits dropped off, it would make sense for them to reevaluate some of the WL offers, no? At this point we're all speculating, and none of it does anything other than to make us feel better or stress us out. For all of our collective sanity, I recommend taking a breath and enjoying the remaining time we have before law school comes along and ruins all our lives.
RE: LSAC's servers. Part of the reason LSAC is so pervasive and all-important is that they have made themselves a vital part of the admissions process, most likely to maintain the value and importance of the LSAT. Ever wondered why 90% of status checkers look identical? They're all run by LSAC, using LSAC's infrastructure. Presumably the randomly different status checkers (UT, Michigan, UVA, Columbia) are run by the schools themselves or an outside entity. I assume NU's "decision letter system" is also run through LSAC. Yes, it sucks that we have to wait, but what can we do about it?

In theory what you're saying sounds nice, but come to terms with it now. If you show up to an interview wearing the wrong thing, you will not get the job. If the hiring partner doesn't like your face, or if you remind him of the trainer his wife has been quietly boning on the side, you will not get the job. Some of those things are in your control and some are not, but in the end it doesn't really matter.Letzgo1Gen wrote:Honestly, at this point it seems so remedial of them. You're going to judge a bunch of wanna-be-lawyers on our wardrobe or video editing skills? How about looking at the content of the video instead of our fashion choices, or at our life accomplishments, or scores? The fact that our appearances are being judged - and possibly influencing our file, even if subconsciously, really pisses me off.britrf wrote:TweetsByJohann:

WHO DID THIS.
Changing outfits 8 times sounds like someone's trying too hard--which is a thing--and shows that the candidate lacks judgement and perspective. Maybe it was a joke that didn't work? Who knows, but if it shows up as a twitter joke you can bet it was a bad idea.

I'm glad I didn't do that.Glasseyes wrote:In theory what you're saying sounds nice, but come to terms with it now. If you show up to an interview wearing the wrong thing, you will not get the job. I'm still confused why NU does the whole "held" thing instead of just WLing from the get go. But I guess it doesn't make any difference.

Agree - social intelligence is a thing and an important part of being a lawyer.Ditka747 wrote:Changing outfits 8 times sounds like someone's trying too hard--which is a thing--and shows that the candidate lacks judgement and perspective.
Disagree in part. Not all deadlines are two weeks away - some people got second round scholarship offers which pushed back their deadlines. The last thing I want to do is spend 500 dollars more than I have to double-depositing ...Glasseyes wrote:I don't mean for this to come off as harsh as it might sound, but the collective energy in here is kind of pointlessly wound up right now. Also, figuring out housing is a pain especially if you don't know where you're going.britrf wrote:

Can you imagine being the guy that singled out for the outfits though?

Especially if that person knows Johann tweeted about it. For the rest of their life they will wonder what could have been if they just would have worn one outfit like the rest of us probably did.rion91 wrote:Can you imagine being the guy that singled out for the outfits though?

But I definitely agree with some of your other points.

Status: Decision Letter Available within 24 hrs
Current Status Date: 5/15/2014

So for the people that got in, what did it say? Same thing or is this a ding/WL?
I'm going crazy at work right now.

Samesies. Right as I walk to yoga class just a block from my beloved NU. How will I downward dog knowing there's a decision coming? (Still think it's a waitlist)
