Has anyone negotiated for scholarships yet? Trying to find the sweet spot for when to ask, "please give me money?!?!?!"

Been considering it for a while but I can't decide if it's better to wait until later in the cycle when they realize how badly they need high lsats or now when they still have money. Anyone have thoughts?matthewsean85 wrote:Has anyone negotiated for scholarships yet? Trying to find the sweet spot for when to ask, "please give me money?!?!?!"

Some are looking for more aggressive scholarships, but would it be ridiculous to negotiate for a half scholly at this point being well above their 75th for LSAT?ks2499 wrote:Been considering it for a while but I can't decide if it's better to wait until later in the cycle when they realize how badly they need high lsats or now when they still have money. My GPA remains my ball and chain, but I would think a half scholly at in-state rate would be reasonable

Have you gotten anything from them yet? I'm sure you're in at higher ranked schools with your #s. I bet you can get at least a half scholarship.matthewsean85 wrote:Some are looking for more aggressive scholarships, but would it be ridiculous to negotiate for a half scholly at this point being well above their 75th for LSAT?ks2499 wrote:Been considering it for a while but I can't decide if it's better to wait until later in the cycle when they realize how badly they need high lsats or now when they still have money. I didn't get anything from them when I was accepted in early November. I have gotten some much better offers to this point, but alas, I'm currently in W&M's backyard and some consideration would be nice. It would at least make me think long and hard about it before I decide LS is right for me.ks2499 wrote:Have you gotten anything from them yet? Damn, that's cold. They might assume you're going elsewhere and are holding off until you show real interest. I'd give it a try. I think I might wait a month or so for people to start withdrawing and then try to negotiate.matthewsean85 wrote:I didn't get anything from them when I was accepted in early November. Thanks for the words of encouragement! Realistically I have no idea if I'll go anywhere next year, but I want to maximize the options as much as possible, and W&M for free (with GI Bill) would be pretty damn amazing!ks2499 wrote:Damn, that's cold. On that note, aren't you going to be accepting some much more preftigious acceptances when the time comes around? You have better schollys than I do, from what I can tell!

Re: William & Mary c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I have been lucky enough to receive some pretty good offers, but W&M is still the cheapest COA at this point. I'm older and have struggled with debt before from grad school, so I'm looking to go as cheap as possible. I do also believe that outside the top 20, there's not a huge difference, and W&M alumni have been so welcoming and helpful to me even this early on in my LS career, I can't help but keep coming back to it as a strong contender.matthewsean85 wrote:ks2499 wrote:Thanks for the words of encouragement! Are you a VA resident? With your offers, I'd take W&M without a doubt. I happen to be lucky enough to be a MN resident and a VA resident, but unforuntately that makes the decision that much more difficult. But seriously, with your offers, you're in a pretty strong position to grab the least amount of debt combined with the prestige necessary to get a desirable outcome out of LS.
It's a scary world out there, and for those of us who completely understand debt and the effect it has on a person, minimizing debt on what is ultimately a gamble is the most important thing!

My heart raced a bit when I saw the flurry of 165 & <25th %ile GPA's, but they've not sunk quite to my GPA yet, hah. I'm still at "in review" with a status date of 11.29.12. Given my <2.5 gpa, I'm settled in for the long wait though. Congratulations to those accepted today!

Not a resident of any useful state for admissions purposes, unfortunately, though part of my award was in-state tuition. Thanks for all your kind words, here's to full rides and jobs for all of us!matthewsean85 wrote: I'm with you being older and trying to figure this all out!

Not quite yet, but I'm hoping! I had the interview invite and I think it went really well, but I'm probably requiring all the support I can with my GPA. Maybe W&M and WUSTL will come on the same day and this decision will become even more complicated than it already is. That's a problem I'd love to have.wannabelawstudent wrote:I feel your paid brah....althought I haven't been waiting near as long as you. Re: William & Mary c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Let me just jump in here and make it the stat triplets. But anyway, I wouldn't worry too much bro. I doubt, given this cycle, that you will be WL or dinged. I just submitted on Jan 3rd, but I'm not nervous. A look on LSN is showing me that our numbers should be an admit pretty easily. Don't psych yourself out.2012Lsatscore wrote:
Yeah...at this point I'm pretty sure they don't want me. Most people with my/our numbers get waitlisted so I'm not shocked. I just continue to laugh at the fact that they basically assaulted my mailbox with flashy garbage (including a fee waiver) and then hung me out to dry.
Maybe they can sense my love for UA, who knows? Maybe they follow TLS. (I have made it plain that I am UA's bitch at this point). I have good options at this point so I really don't care.

I was accepted by W&M 9 days after submitted my application, higher than median LSAT, no GPA(since I am an international applicant ), but I do have some good softs. So I guess W&M is not those kind of school only look at your numbers. Good luck!
