Conventional wisdom from this and last years thread is to be above a median.

How did you find out you were waitlisted? Email?
Yes, I received an email earlier this evening. I am not above either median, unfortunately. Do you think it is still worthwhile to send a LOCI or am I lost cause? :?

I do have significant work experience, strong letters of recommendation, strong 'overcoming adversity' personal statement... I think it's these things that have carried me this far. But, from what your saying, it sounds like these won't be enough to get me off of the waitlist?
Don't take my word as gospel! I'm just looking at it from a numbers perspective... if Minnesota still interests you, certainly send a LOCI

I'd say it is worth a try...better than doing nothing at all. Good luck!

Thanks! I wasn't taking your word as gosepl, I figured that you were looking at it based on the numbers... but I would imagine that's probably pretty accurate, and that having the numbers would make it more likely. I am working on my LOCI now, hoping to knock their socks off and make them realize that they simply couldn't, in good conscience, welcome a new class of future lawyers to their school if I'm not part of it. 8)

We'll see how that pans out. haha

True, I do plan on trying. Thanks!

Anyone know if being gay could give me a slight bump? I can't recall if they asked about it directly on their application, but I know some schools did--- so I'd imagine it's a factor, at least in terms of them achieving some diversity quota. It's worked against me in many other ways throughout my life- would be kind of nice if it worked in my favor a bit at some point.

Waitlisted today. Surprised I heard back so fast. I applied late in the cycle in early February. When should I send out a LOCI? Is there such a thing as sending it "too soon"?

Haha yeah I can't remember if the Minn application had anything about it on there...I am guessing it may give you a slight bump for the diversity aspect (as you said) but ultimately I am guessing it comes down to being a numbers game. Good cycle to be applying though!

This is true, it seems I'll have a better shot at getting off the waitlist than I would have in previous years when there were more applicants. I assume they like something about me enough to not just flat out reject me, when my numbers are at the low end for both GPA and LSAT... I think one of my major weaknesses (aside from numbers- haha) was that I didn't focus enough (read: at all) on why I wanted to go there specifically in my application/personal statement. So that will likely be my emphasis in the LOCI that I send them-

I'm at (what appears to be) the magic number 167, and my application has gone

under review - 1/22
under review - 2/1

and remains at that today, so I don't think I'm much help :P

Mine has done roughly the same
complete 1/17
under review 1/18, 1/23, 1/28, 2/1..... and nothing since.

This is the one more school that has been tough to gague. Case in point, a friend of mine who is 22 with an lsac gpa of 3.85 and two 155 Lsats was admitted in Dec. with 19k/year. Not a lot of extracariculars, but he is an incredible human being, and his personal statement was amazing. Maybe they are finally looking past the numbers....yeah, right.

I'll go with what a Dean of Admissions said from another school. The numbers are way down, again, and the Ad Comms are scrambling.

this is such a strange cycle. your friend is just like me, I had a little lower lsat and higher gpa, submitted right before xmas and got my acceptance the first week of january, complete shock. I'm guessing they may not be getting as many at median gpa, 75th or above lsats as they would've hoped, so they're probably pulling from both extremes to keep medians. though you have to think, they have a pretty low 25th for a T20, hell even for a T30, to begin with. maybe they're more "holistic" than they're given credit for, idk.

Yeah I was very pleased with my scholarship offer this year. Looks like they are really trying to keep that median LSAT. I also find it surprising how big of a drop there is from median to 25th LSAT, especially as they are the only top school to have that big of a drop.

I would tend to agree. Once I saw that there were decisions coming out yesterday (a decent batch according to LSN), I assumed I was going to be getting one one way or the other.

Doesn't work like that though. My status as a strict numbers candidate probably isn't helping.

Hooray for being a number.

Hellooo,

The nomenclature that applies to me is L34xxxx - 164 - 3.81 and I believe that, comensurate with activities thus far, my candidacy should be readily apparent. Thank you for not looking upon me as person, but thing.

(maybe they will investigate this piece of sarcam and then deny me)

I think putting it in your personal statement or maybe even in an addendum would be useful. On a side note, the U was the first university to officially sponsor a student organization for LGBT students, so it's a really good place to be for that. If you're not from Minneapolis but would like information on some networks and clubs PM me and I can find out for you (had a ton of friends deeply involved in queer issues throughout the city).

Just got in via phonecall! LSAT at median and GPA is barely above 25th percentile. Sent 1/5, complete 1/10, one update on 1/18. Status checker still says in review and is still at 1/18.

Waitlisted via email. Given that I'm below both medians, I'm happy at this point to have not been dinged. I'm going to be sending LoCI soon, as I am crazy about this school and city. Congrats to those admitted today!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
