I did a search on LSN using the range 3.6-3.7 and 168-169, for the past three cycles. Not a single person has gotten in outright. That said, only one of them was an ED and that's counting WL's as denials as well. Either way, that's fantastic news and hopefully a good sign for this cycle.

I wrote something relevant that was published by a big time magazine... Should I update the admissions committee? I'm worried that I might be coming off as desperate... Last week I sent in an updated resume because I was recently invited to speak at a national conference on LGBT equality. Thoughts?

I called the Admissions Office 3-4 times after the ED deadline, I'm pretty sure the girl there recognized me by voice eventually, but I got in. You won't regret it afterward, it's adding something compelling to your application, and honestly, it shouldn't have any real drawbacks.

You might think it makes you look desperate, but in all likelihood, they'll just see it as an added fact on your application, and if they did notice you asking repetitively (which you aren't necessarily) I'm not sure if it'd be frowned upon at all.

I'm curious what other folks here thing regarding Joedf's admission/numbers. I realize we're drawing from an absurdly small sample size, but judging from some of the early acceptances to Michigan, Duke, and apparently now Columbia, is it possible we're still underestimating how unpredictable this cycle will be? Or is it more likely that this is just a drastic outlier and us at both 25% are barking up the wrong tree(s)...

Is Joedf's admission really that surprising? He was basically at both medians, right? LSN gives him about a 60% chance for RD...

Medians for last year's class were 172 and 3.71.

I tied the median and was just barely under for GPA, so I gave myself a coin flip chance at getting in - I don't think I'm a "drastic outlier." Since this was far and away my first choice school, I did ED, since I'd hear back early and didn't want anything else quite as much. As far as work experience/other non-hard numbers go, I'm in the middle of my gap year (am working) and I think I got decent-good LOR's and some slightly unconventional internships/work throughout undergrad.

I think I was right around the middle, and in this case I took what was perhaps a 50/50 gamble and it paid off.

Not a lock but not necessarily surprising, either.

Anything that substantially adds to the attractiveness of your application and indicates you are a benefit to CLS is worth reporting.

And you are desperate. I don't think it's bad for them to know how bad you want to go to Columbia, especially if you are conveying it to them in a practical and useful way.

Really surprised I got in, especially since I retook the LSAT this October and actually did worse (168...don't ask.) I keep thinking they're going to e-mail me and be like oops, that was a mistake!
