I hope they can match me up with a current student for housing...
My husband is coming with me! We're getting in on Friday and hoping to check out some neighborhoods where we might live and also see where he might work.Lily Pad wrote:+1 for March ASW!
Does anyone have any thoughts about bringing SO's with to ASW? Mine will be moving with me but has never been to Boston, I'd really like to bring him so he can get to know the area better, but I'm not sure how appropriate that would be.

Some of the other ASWs have lunches or panels for SOs, but I don't think Harvard does. Maybe if some of our SOs get bored they'll end up getting together to tour a bit? Haha, somehow I don't think my husband would appreciate me planning this for him.

Yeah I think they want to reserve seating for students, especially for things like the faculty lunches and current students. You can look at a list of faculty members that will be "hosting" at the lunch on the itinerary tooCurious1 wrote:The website says "guests" have to eat at different tables.caminante wrote:My husband is coming with me! I'd love to bring my SO, but unfortunately the cost is prohibitive and he can't take Monday off of work.
My guess would be that "up to" means that they wouldn't give you $125 if your ticket only cost $100, but otherwise as long as they have sufficient funds, they would give you the full amount listed. I could be way off base, though.caminante wrote:About the subsidy... The amount listed for my distance is "up to" $125. My plane ticket incidentally cost almost exactly $125, do you think they will give me the full $125? That little "up to" in the description made me worry they would only give a percentage, but max out at $125.splbagel wrote:Registered for March ASW and bought my plane ticket! Sorry if none of you know this, I figured I would just ask in case anyone else has already asked admissions about something similar.
Had the same exact thought process haha, and just decided to go to both due to the convenience since I'm on the west coast. Also will be bringing my SO; here's hoping the attending SOs don't get too bored.caminante wrote:Hey, are any of you going to go to one of Columbia's ASW? I am thinking about attempting to do Columbia Feb 28-29 then go directly to Harvard's ASW. Part of me thinks that would be crazy and exhausting, but it would also be nice to compare the two back to back.
Anyone else thinking about doing that?

That sounds intense.soj wrote:How's the CLS-NYU-HLS marathon for exhausting?
I'm pretty sure they will. My train ticket was almost exactly the price of my subsidy amount and they gave me all of it. I think the "up to" talks about if your ticket is less they will only give you up to the price you paid.caminante wrote:splbagel wrote:Registered for March ASW and bought my plane ticket! I plan on attending the March ASW. Could someone who has seen the itinerary answer a few questions for me via PM? Much obliged, if so.

Couldn't hurt to ask, right? Just show them a calculation of your car's highway mpg and the round-trip distance.phl516 wrote:Just opened up the travel subsidy form (thanks for the reminder, Kulshan). Can you not get a subsidy for gas if you are driving?
Do they say that remuneration is up to their discretion? Flying would be optimal for me, but if the refund were in doubt I might have to go the safe route and book a few buses.kulshan wrote:I sent in my travel subsidy form today. Hopefully I get the full $150. I added a bit about financial need, being a poor grad student and all. I'm getting really excited about ASW; can't wait to meet you all!
Now there's a charge.
