Apart from a LOCI would emailing or calling the school be worth it?

Outside of a formal addition to your application packet, I doubt any communications will help your application.Langley10 wrote:Apart from a LOCI would emailing or calling the school be worth it?

I don't know if I totally agree with that... I think any communications should be purposeful, and you need to be judicious about how and why you communicate with them, but I have heard many people (operasoprano comes to mind) say that it is important that Fordham "knows you want them," and things like that. I have heard that a visit is a good idea if you want to be persistent and express genuine interest.hadisious wrote:Outside of a formal addition to your application packet, I doubt any communications will help your application.Langley10 wrote:Apart from a LOCI would emailing or calling the school be worth it?
I just had a good semester, so I provided them with an unofficial transcript along with an accompanying letter to provide some commentary on the fall grade update and express my continuing interest. I think this sort of thing is within bounds and can certainly help to establish that you are seriously interested in the school.

Updated to complete 1/10 (was complete 12/2). I have no idea what these date changes mean, but everyone posts them so I figure why not

I'm in the dorms. They're actually pretty spacious. Expensive, but once you factor in the free cable, internet, no need for public transportation, electricity, furniture, and sheer convenience it's pretty comparable to anything else you'd find in the area. I think there are about 30-40 other law students in the dorms, we have our own two floors at the top, but some law students are mixed in with undergrads.lgleye wrote:anyone know about the dorms? and the percentage of students living in dorms? I figure that NYC dorms have ot be pretty cramped.
Main thing that sucks is you can't have a TV in your room.

It comes out to like $1,500 a month. You'll likely have 2 other roommates, private bedrooms, shared bath/living room/kitchen (suite style). But you don't have to stay all year, and it's a lot cheaper if you stay over summer.

Idk, they just said so in the rules. You can in the living room.freaknroll wrote:Why can't you have a tv?
They also have a kinda strict guest policy. You can have anyone over until like 2 or 3 am I think, but any later and you have to get a guest pass 24 hours in advance and provide their emergency contact info, ID, etc.

That's strange, my friends who live in the dorms put the rent around $1900 a month. They also hated it. I only know one person who enjoys living in the dorms. I also know one person who lives in them and when he arrived home plastered and didn't know his room number/couldn't find his student ID, campus security called the police and he ended up in the drunk tank.NYC Law wrote:It comes out to like $1,500 a month. Heads up, you have to SIGN IN overnight guests, in advance even. You can definitely live in nicer place with more freedom off campus, for a better price even. I live in an awesome apt two subway stops away on the UWS and pay less than I would on campus. My "commute" is about 12 minutes.

What percentage of the class does one need to be in to have a realistic shot at biglaw? Is top 25% too optimistic?

Consider using the search feature. The answer to your question is stated in many, many places. I suggest heading over to the "Ask a Law Student" section.

Yeah your friend is right. I keep thinking of $1,500 from an old Fordham thread.JenDarby wrote:That's strange, my friends who live in the dorms put the rent around $1900 a month.NYC Law wrote:It comes out to like $1,500 a month. Just browsed through Fordham's LRAP options since my goal is a position in prosecution. Didn't realize government work was not covered by their LRAP, only by the Forgiveable Revolving Loans program. Sucks.
Do people typically get a substantial amount of these loans, or no?
Edit: And now that I see that this program has been discontinued. Fordham's site could use some updating. Given that it's been discontinued, has there been any indication the LRAP will be expanded to cover those in government positions?

YESS!!! Just got my admit packet from Cardozo in the mail and was ECSTATIC to find an email from Fordham offering me 15K/yr! For those of you who like to keep tabs, I got accepted on 12/13, so getting my scholarship email just short of an entire month later (granted the holidays I'm sure didn't help expedite the process).

Re: Fordham c/o 2015/16 (2011-2012 Cycle)
Can anyone comment on whether or not it's feasible to commute from NJ (about a 50 min train ride) to Fordham for the day program? I'd be living there the first semester (since its obviously the hardest) and then figured I'd save some money by just making the commute from home the next 2 1/2 semesters. Is this doable/advisable??

Re: Fordham c/o 2015/16 (2011-2012 Cycle)
This is very feasible. There is also a flex program if you are interested, which starts early afternoon everyday and doesn't have class on Friday. Many of my friends with long commutes went this route. Otherwise, I started at 9:00 two days a week, 9:30 1 day, 11am 1 day, and 2pm one day first semester. My second semester schedule is pretty comparable. I chose to live very close this year, thinking it would make a difference, but I would truly be fine with an hour commute and it wouldn't have had any impact of my studying. It's really a personal decision.GBURGLAW wrote:Can anyone comment on whether or not it's feasible to commute from NJ (about a 50 min train ride) to Fordham for the day program?
