Re: UConn Applicants 2011
Excerpt from an email I just received from UConn Law:
The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application for admission to the University of Connecticut School of Law. The Committee has decided to delay rendering a final decision on your application and has placed you on our waitlist.
I was waitlisted last year, too, but my LSAT best back then was 156 as opposed to my new best of 163. Weird. Possible case of YP?

When did you apply?
And I doubt it's YP. I got in with a similar GPA and a higher LSAT - I would guess late app, or late LSAT score (did you take Feb exam?)

I applied early January, and wrote the Dec LSAT. And I didn't disclose my GPA, so I don't know how you can assert yours is similarsnapdragon wrote:When did you apply?

Actually, nothing so thrilling, but I glanced through your posting history where you stated your GPA, that's where I obtained my info.
I didn't mean to come off brusque in my original post, just that it's more likely a function of timing than numbers. There's a few people I know of that have gotten into UConn with high stats with no YP. It could also be a function of in-state or out of state.

Re: UConn Applicants 2011
YP=Yield Protection. Some schools will waitlist candidates who are above their median numbers or are highly qualified, because they assume the candidate is likely to get into a better school and probably will not attend anyway. The "Yield Rate" (percentage of admitted students who accept admission and attend) is what they are protecting, because it is a factor in the USNWR rankings. Some schools use the YP to keep their numbers looking good, and it can also be used to not commit scholarship dollars to people who are unlikely to attend.lic06003 wrote:whats yp?
Pretty much the only time you can credibly claim YP is if you have an LSAT and GPA above both published 75th percentiles for a school. So if you had a 172 and a 3.9 and UConn waitlisted you, yeah that could be YP.

Re: UConn Applicants 2011
The yield rate is actually not a direct part of the rankings. But acceptance rate is. Therefore, by waitlisting/reject candidates with numbers significantly above their medians, the school is artificially keeping its acceptance rate low. This bodes well for its overall ranking point with US News.ElvisAaron wrote:YP=Yield Protection. Yes, the yield rate is not a direct part of the Tiered rankings--but USNWR has a number of ancillary rankings in addition to the main category, and one of those rankings is "Most Popular Law Schools"...which is based entirely on the Yield Rate.

UConn is tough on low gpas, it seems like they weigh them just as much as Lsat. Check past cycles on LSN sorted by gpa, it gets funky as soon as you hit 3.4bport hopeful wrote:Late, honestly Im pretty surprised.

Not sure. I'm guessing if the financial aid staff is working that day they will. I am wondering myself, because I will be making my final decision on whether to go to UConn or not on this Saturday.lic06003 wrote:Does anybody know if they accept deposits on asw? Re: UConn Applicants 2011
Its tough, but I likely wouldn't have attended anyway. It could be because of how late I applied. Im one of 2 people on LSN with a 166 or better to no get in. The other had a 2.8. Tough one.ElvisAaron wrote:UConn is tough on low gpas, it seems like they weigh them just as much as Lsat. Deposit checks are due to the Admissions Office.mebo28 wrote:Not sure. I'm guessing if the financial aid staff is working that day they will.
