Would it be reasonable to ask loyola to match sturm?

COA at Loyola is 67882, while at Denver it is 53859. If you consider COA + scholarship, then maybe you have a case but still stretching it in my opinion.

Thanks. Applied to USD/pepperdine/loyola. Haven't heard back from any of them yet (applied mid jan). Hoping at least one will offer me some $ so I could use that as leverage against loyola.

Seems like a couple people on this thread had lower numbers than you and got 87k, their standard award.

lol 40 miles in LA is like an hour and a half. BUT as far as the train goes, a little birdie told me they have a shuttle that picks up from Union Station. I've lived in LA all my life...you do not want to make that commute though.

I would check out the Metrolink Web site and time it out. You'd have to match up the Metrolink and Metro timetables to figure out the length of your commute. At that distance, it may very well be more time efficient to take the train --- and it is almost certainly more cost efficient, given the student discount for monthly passes and the fact that Loyola will pay for half the cost of the pass. Plus Loyola charges $500 for parking pass. I live only 20 minutes away from Loyola, and I'll still be taking the train to save money.

That said, do you really want to live with your folks? That would seem like a HUGE distraction. And do you want to spend three hours of your day commuting? Law school will be busy enough as it is. Yes, you can study on the train, but your concentration will be deeply impaired

I don't think its worth living at home, even if your parents live in LA. I think your grades will suffer from the distractions, and to me good grades are worth more than what you'd save.

that may have been true ten years ago when she probably would have been making 110k right out of school, but ITE i wouldn't underestimate how nice it might be to have $50k less in loans upon graduation. if i didn't live three thousand miles away i would definitely give the whole living-at-home thing pretty deep consideration.

You don't really help the stats that much. Loyola would probably prefer a 3.6/165. That's my guess as to why you didn't get the 87k.

I must disagree with DS on this with one caveat: if your home is not distraction and drama-free, don't do it.

That said, there is a shuttle that runs from the station to the school and back. Honestly, if I had the option of living with sane family members and taking the train, I would do it in a heartbeat; 10k less in loans each year would be sweet.
