Thanks. I talked to another Tulane student on these forums who said the same. This makes Tulane a little more enticing.samilabuena wrote:I have a good friend who is a 2L at Tulane now. She said that the new grading curve makes it a lot easier to make a 3.0 and keep it. I can't speak to the %, but I hope that helps to answer your question.CrimLaw300 wrote:Anyone who recieved a scholarship: does your letter say that you need to keep a 3.0 GPA which will put you in the top 57%?
I am curious because I recently spoke with an admissions officer who said that the top 57% figure is not correct. She mentioned that Tulane has instituted a new grading curve which sets the mean GPA for most classes between a 3.2 and a 3.3, thus making a 3.0 fall between the top 75% and top 85% of the class. This makes the GPA requirement seem much more lenient.
Any Tulane students out there who know if this is true?

Interesting line in the letter from Dean Griffin, they decided to reduce this years class size.

Re: Tulane 2011
I called admissions today and they said the status checker won't change once you go under review. Mine had been at "File Complete" since 10/13 and when I called today I was told I am currently under review. You have to call in to find out your status.Mr_Brightside wrote:Still sitting at complete 1/20 after submitting in November. The wait is killing me

Thanks y'all! Is there any chance at a hint of money with a 160/3.7? I highly doubt it, but I heard that though they rarely budge on scholly, they can be surprising in who they give them to.

Re: Tulane 2011
We should reduce our class size to 200 or less. While I do like our "medium" size class of around 250, it works slightly to our disadvantage when we are compared to schools with class sizes of over 100 less than us.pokerlaw wrote:Interesting line in the letter from Dean Griffin, they decided to reduce this years class size.
Lower class sizes = increased expenditures per student/lower student faculty ratio/higher medians/lower acceptance rate/better placement/etc.

Re: Tulane 2011
Would it be useless/have a negative impact on my application if I were to call/email the admissions office and tell them that I would absolutely accept an offer of admission if my application is currently under review? I love you, Tulane

Re: Tulane 2011
In today. Went complete in mid-December. 160/3.7.
Need to do some research here. Currently wrestling between Tennessee with $$ and Tulane probably without. Might have to take that kind of talk to another thread.
Good luck to those still waiting and congrats to those who heard the good news.

Re: Tulane 2011
Anyone planning on going to either Admitted Students Weekend?
Also, anyone considering Tulane above higher ranked schools? I have heard that Tulane is notorious for not playing into the rankings game, which is just another reason I love the prospect of attending. Tulane just stands out to me way beyond W&L and Wake, who are offering similar merit aid. Anyone else feel this way? What about Tulane with $ over UT, GW, BU or ND at sticker?
The only thing that worries me are the job prospects.... low reporting rate is alarming. I remember reading about how few (of the already low number reporting) found paid summer work. Anyone have thoughts on this? I apologize if this has already been discussed here. I have read as much as I could find out about Tunlane on TLS, but it all sort of jumbles together after so many years/months.

Talked to a 1L the other day and he said they were told not to expect paying summer work at all for this year. Dunno about 2L though. He said 1L was looking pretty bleak, but he had something unpaid lined up.pcthenls wrote:Anyone planning on going to either Admitted Students Weekend?

Re: Tulane 2011
My friend who is a 2L absolutely loves it at Tulane. She gave up much higher ranked schools to go there and says she may never leave New Orleans. They did offer her a full ride, though, as I recall.
When I asked her what she didn't like about the school, she mentioned the Career Development Office without much hesitation. She has had some great opportunities, but she reports the the office is frustrating and just plain unhelpful.
I'm planning on going to ASW the first weekend in April because I think I will really love it. The week after, I'm heading to Emory where I've also been offered a scholarship. I would consider Tulane over Emory, but that jobs bit is definitely a sticking point...

Re: Tulane 2011
Thanks for the input guys!
I have not heard back from Emory yet, but really hope I get in there too! I have been offered 25k per year at Tulane and am weighing that against a full tuition scholly from two FL schools and no money at Texas. I have other great options, but I don't see myself anywhere where I will have to hone my snow shovelling skills.
I really like the atmoshere and mentality associated with New Orleans and my interaction with the admissions office has been nothing but impressive.
I will probably be at the April ASW too! Hope to see you there.
