I was held for further review in December with a 168/3.6, and astonishingly plush softs, back in December as well. If you are really interested in the school, send a LOCI. I think they should be begging me to attend, not the other way around, so I decided against it.athenian wrote:I was held for further reveiw back in December. My numbers are similar or better than some of the people who have been getting in today.
Should I send a LOCI?

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
That's interesting, and it kind of worries me. My numbers seemed pretty auto-admit, but he mentions a couple of things that concern me.SHarry3666 wrote:I posted this link in another UGA thread earlier, but this one seems more active. I'm not applying to UGA but just received a fb post about an interview with UGA Law's dean of admission and I thought I'd share it. It seems pretty long and I admit that I've only scanned it. hth. Good luck!
For one, he said that one of the first things he looks at is the criminal record. I was arrested in Athens freshman year for a DUI/MIP/fake ID.
Two, he said he strongly encourages a resume. UGA is the only application I did not attach a resume to, mainly because I didn't think they wanted one.
Third, I had a letter of recommendation from an elected official that I do not know very well. He has always been friends with my parents, more with my dad than mom, but does not know me that well. I had another from a professor and a third from a lawyer/family friend/employer in hs, so I think I am still covered here.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
Good to know. I was also happy to learn that OOS folks like me can get in state tuition for 2L and 3L. That's like a 30k scholly to be spread in the 2nd two years.PDL wrote:Haha, I actually haven't received a packet of any kind as of yet. I was accepted via status checker, and a week or so after that received a single page "Congratulations" letter with a bumper sticker, and a week or so after that got a single page letter detailing the scholarship. So, I'd say 3 weeks or so after admittance via status checker did I receive info about the scholarship. I'm at work now, and don't have the letters with me, but when I get home, I'll check the dates to really nail down how long it took for them to send them out.sch0123 wrote:athenian wrote:@PDL, how were you notified of scholarship? Yes please elaborate! I won't hold your undergrad against you
Hope this helps.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
The other potential draw for me is the fact that UGA seems to place a lot of folks in federal clerkships, including 9 at SCOTUS over the past few years. Clerking at SCOTUS is an absolute dream that I'm not gonna let go of just because it's so, so unlikely.

Ahh that's very helpful! I should just be happy I got in, not clamoring for additional info yet but I can't help it..PDL wrote:Haha, I actually haven't received a packet of any kind as of yet. Nice! How do you like life in Athens? From everything I read, it sounds lovely.RedBeard410 wrote:Found out that I got in today via Status Checker! UGA is my top choice since I already live in Athens and my girlfriend is a currently a 2L here.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
Athens is Great! We moved here right before my girlfriend started her first year of law school, so we've been here for about a year and a half. There's a lot to do and the weather is usually really nice (I used to live up North, so the warm weather is a welcome change). Really Athens has pretty much anything that you could ask for, and the distance to Atlanta isn't too bad either, so we've gone there a lot for Braves games and concerts, etc.francisConn wrote:Nice! Got in last night. Currently in undergrad at UGA and went complete around the 19th of December. For me it looks like the decision is going to come down to Bama w/ money or UGA at sticker.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
I submitted my app on 1/10 and it still says my application is not complete. I called the office and they said this was normal and that it takes time for the LSAC package to arrive.
The other schools I've applied usually mark that the application has been received within 1-2 days. Did everyone have to wait a bit as well before their went complete and even longer for under review?
(Congrats to all who received acceptances)

That's looking like my decision as well. Let me know how you're feeling about the whole thing?creader wrote:Got in last night. Currently in undergrad at UGA and went complete around the 19th of December. For me it looks like the decision is going to come down to Bama w/ money or UGA at sticker.

I was held back in December with a 3.7/165. Has anyone gotten in off the "Hold" list? I have pretty good softs (not TLS good, but still pretty good) and am IS.

According to the interview with the UGA dean of admissions, last cycle 61% of OOSers received the Tuition Equalization Scholarship -- so your chances are pretty good.PDL wrote:I'm 3.44/168/OOS and got the Tuition Equalization Scholarship, so I'd bet you get at least something.SrLaw wrote:so I am in at 3.4/167?
any chance for some $$$?

Congrats!!
Why would you have the letter from an elected official if you did not work for them etc? (Not being snarky) but I thought that was a total no-no?

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
He is in the State House, so it's not like he's a big time senator or anything. He has lived in my hometown (~7000 residents) since birth, except for his time at UGA during undergrad/pharmacy schools. He's a local businessman and has been a friend of my father (lived in the same town all his life) for as long as I can remember. He and my dad were discussing me going to law school, specifically UGA's, and he said he would do anything he could to help, and he even suggested he write a LoR. I called/emailed him and made arrangements, and he sent it to LSAC.JJDancer wrote:Congrats!!

In via status checker, planning on visiting soon. Anybody here about the generosity with scholarships for instate students, with tuition being obviously low??

Thanks!!! I hope it wasnt a mistake lol. I don't know how any school could beat UGA with in state tuition for me .... or that I would want to go to any other school.... or that any other school could even offer me enough scholarship money to make it a tough choice.JenDarby wrote:Congrats Sandro!!!
