Re: Duke NOT Priority Track
can anyone make something out of the graph for duke on LSN? there seems to be some kind of sharp cutoff of decisions rendered at 170, so i wonder if this is typical of duke at this stage in the game?

170/3.7 could have been some sort of priority track cut-off this year- they could have sent the PT to a bunch of people whose numbers meant they were likely to accept anyways

But it seems to have been a hard lower bound. I didn't receive PT despite a 170/3.7 (was admitted, though).

12/21 File complete, ready for review
Should I be worried it hasn't changed yet? I saw someone who had 12/23 complete and then 1/10 UR....ah!

Do the UR dates for Duke ever move? I would be kind of surprised no one has picked up my file in the last week, since I interviewed there last Saturday.

I personally believe that I am still UR 10/12 because they are currently passing my app. around to every single UG student, showing them exactly what a perfect LS app. looks like before ultimately accepting me with a full scholly + stipend....bdubs wrote:Do the UR dates for Duke ever move? Ick. At this rate Duke looks like it's waitlisting every non-PT applicant, so news at a rate of more than 1 RD acceptance every few days would be super. Unless things have changed, the bulk of Duke's class isn't PT. I can't find the website now (so hopefully I didn't imagine it), but somewhere on the Duke website it said that ~80 in the incoming class were PT. Time is ticking?

Re: Duke NOT Priority Track
My guess is that they're going to hold of on RD apps until some of the PT applicants start to withdraw. Most PTers will go elsewhere anyway because their numbers (unless they're on the low end of the PT pool) tend to get them in at better places, often with $.
Duke's median is a 170, and the cut-off for PT is 170. Thus, they must take a number of non-PTs to balance it out, and EDs can't possible fill up enough seats to do so. Just be patient.

Re: Duke NOT Priority Track
If I remembers correctly, some are summer start - LLM though. So when that is factored in there are like 160 seats and 80 or so are PT which means there should be another 80 or so of RD applicants. 169's should be safe (assuming they have a high gpa - atleast 3.6 probably 3.7+). Anything less than that, and its slim pickings unless you are a URM. Id assume they'll take very few 168's with very high gpas. Just my 2 cents.ads222 wrote:Deuce wrote:

This totally makes sense. But I don't like it. 80 RD seats? Rough.BeachandRun23 wrote: If I remembers correctly, some are summer start - LLM though. Duke is tiny, but I don't know where you got the 80 PT seats from or why you think LLMs are included in that source. The majority of the class has to be non-pt and Duke has very few ED accepts (or applicants) on LSN.ads222 wrote:This totally makes sense. But I don't like it. 80 RD seats? Re: Duke NOT Priority Track
This is a quote from a prior duke law cycle. It is from Duke's website.bdubs wrote:Duke is tiny, but I don't know where you got the 80 PT seats from or why you think LLMs are included in that source. The majority of the class has to be non-pt and Duke has very few ED accepts (or applicants) on LSN.
"Applicants to Duke Law this year make up the largest and strongest group we have received to date. In addition, because we enroll 40-45 students in our summer-starting dual degree programs, there are only 160 seats in our fall JD class."
So, there were 160 seats. Because the median LSAT is 170, and applicants with a 170 or above were PT'd, I'd say probably about half the class are PT admits (170+ LSATS). So that leaves 80 or so for RD or ED admits (non PT). Sorry.

Re: Duke NOT Priority Track
Didn't Duke matriculate ~235 students last year? Also, many 170+ applicants were not selected for PT (case in point...). Also, I am one of those few ED applicants spoken of earlier, and I fully intend on taking a seat. Probably with an awesome scholarship too.BeachandRun23 wrote:This is a quote from a prior duke law cycle. That's true, they did. Class size was more like 200 a few years ago. Its really impressive that they increased the class size while still raising the median lsat to 170. They are a really strong school.beachbum wrote:Didn't Duke matriculate ~235 students last year?

Yeah the bolded is incorrect. I think you're attaching the LSATs to the GPAs and forgetting they accept splitters and reverse-splitters.BeachandRun23 wrote:This is a quote from a prior duke law cycle. I know this isn't the chances forum but considering the above information regarding the number of seats, can you guys chance me at 167/3.92? Wrote Why Duke and Diversity

I think a lot of PT candidates who end up matriculating are part of the summer start MA programs, because that is one of Duke's main selling points. I would end up doing summer start for a dual degree as well if I went to Duke.

Re: Duke NOT Priority Track
Eh, they might've also over-enrolled a little bit. But I agree, Duke is incredible. Hopefully they roll out ED decisions next week, and then I'm sure they'll pick up with the RD pool.BeachandRun23 wrote:That's true, they did. Class size was more like 200 a few years ago. Re: Duke NOT Priority Track
Those are both valid points. Either way, we can all agree that the number of seats for those who are non PT and non LLM is limited.bdubs wrote:I am also above 170 and not PT.BeachandRun23 wrote:This is a quote from a prior duke law cycle.
