Is a LOCI a word/pdf you attach to an email, or is it the actual body of the email? Just want to know the proper procedure (besides actually mailing a letter).

I attached a word document for an addendum I had to do, but I am unsure if this is proper. However, Harvard does not take attachments (for security ), so I had to copy the text into the e-mail. Besides formatting worries, to me it just looked sloppy and unprofessional. I would feel uncomfortable submitting a LOCI in the text of the e-mail.

Thanks. For NU I just sent an email expressing myself, but I feel it will probably get thrown away and never looked at by anyone. I will probably mail things to schools that allow it and email to places that ask for emails. I'm just worried Columbia and others don't want these letters from me, as my holds/waitlists clearly arn't YP. Oh well, can't hurt.

0L hasn't heard anything yet, and I just heard today.

Also, I don't think The Wire has heard and I know of at least one other person (not on TLS) who was complete in September and hasn't heard.

I asked the admissions office after being deferred on early decision. Email submission only is preferred. I sent a pdf because I've got easy access to a scanner, so I'm not sure on the word v. pdf question.

That said, I'd say go with pdf if you can.

Thank you so much, I guess this is probably the views of most law schools since they have mostly moved to paperless files. I would also recommend a program like Bullzip PDF printer so those interested can convert your word document directly into a pdf.

I didn't have Acrobat installed, and I didn't see that option. I used one of those free upload websites to convert it.

Does that work in office 2003? I prefer bullzip because I can print anything into a pdf, but I had actually never tried to save something as a pdf so thanks for the tip.

Default with Word '03 on windows, you can't directly print as far as I know. I think you can on Macs though?...

It definitely should. I'm using a Mac, but I can print anything into a PDF. Just click print, PDF, save as PDF. It's very easy. I haven't used a PC in years, but I'm sure there's an easy way to do it.

Wait. They want the LOCI sent via e-mail? I thought that all application material submitted after initial package was preferably sent via mail. What if one wishes to send additional documents along with the LOCI?

I am a bit confused. So if you've been held, that just means they haven't made a decision yet, but will make one in a month or two?

Yeah. If you've been held they will make a decision (Accept/Reject/Reserve) by April 30.

My letter said April 21st.

In other news, I feel bad for those of you for whom Columbia is your first choice. CLS' machinations this year are particularly annoying.

I'm a URM on hold at CLS from their ED, but I was rejected from Hastings, UCLA, and Berkeley with a 3.5/163. Can anyone make sense of this? Is Columbia just pulling my leg?

I'd caution you against holding out too much hope for Columbia. Can you update your file with anything special?

No. I think you could still get a hold anytime next week. I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility that you are flat-out accepted, too, as you seem like a strong Hold candidate if not an acceptance.
