I feel so torn. I really really want to hear something from Harvard, but being that I had my JS1 in early november, chances are that it would be better for me not to hear anything from them this week (i.e. no rejection or waitlist) so then I could hope that I'm apart of the infamous hold category...

A little LS22 told me there will be no holds this year.

Yep, no "official" holds. Obviously there will be a group of people internally that the admissions office is deferring decisions on for a bit, but this is not going to be communicated to the applicant as an official status.

Sorry that I missed this- where is this info from, LS22? I never really got the difference between a hold and waitlist, as much as it was explained, I just thought it was a stretch... so it makes sense!

I forget the poster, but it was someone ITT who I think is a current student and seems to be well-aware of the goings-on in the HLS admissions office that said this. I'll try to find the quote.

Apparently adcoms don't really care. I sent mine anyway in hope that they'd remember that I exist.

I kinda hope they don't care, mine ever so slightly worsened my GPA.... so I don't plan to send them in unless they ask

Yeah, that's why I'm hoping I don't hear anything even though I so desperately want to hear something. It's quite the dilemma.

I'm in a weird position because my GPA only went up .04 points, but the increase sent me from below to above 25th percentile for like 3 of my schools, so I figured the increase was important enough.

Could you explain a bit of your methodology? are waitlists included in rejections or acceptances? did you clean the data? what regression did you use?

also, if anyone was looking for a fun stats project, I'd love to see the impact of work experience holding everything else constant. I'd do it myself but have a lot of schoolwork

I sent it to my reach schools; for all the other apps I was already at median or higher, so I didn't think it was necessary.

Put me at a nine percent chance, which is lower than I'd like If only HY would look at my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years of undergrad divorced from my first year. I thought I was going to switch to a trumpet major back then, for the love of Pooty Tang. If I took that year out I'd be near median, instead of far below 25th.

But in all seriousness, the problem with this is it (I assume) ignores 25/50/75 percentiles, which we know are important. Also 5 years of data might actually be a bad thing. We are in a vastly different world with admissions than we were in the 2008-2009 cycle.

Finally, I'm curious about your regression. What confidence level are you at, and what was your correlation coefficient?
