Since we are talking about the worth of NU relative to debt taken on, is NU worth it on a full ride if my goals are Biglaw or Clerkship, not necessarily in Chicago?

undoubtedly. full ride at NU is incredible; I would argue its worth it at sticker for biglaw. Their placement far outpaces their "ranking".FlowBro wrote:Since we are talking about the worth of NU relative to debt taken on, is NU worth it on a full ride if my goals are Biglaw or Clerkship, not necessarily in Chicago?

Interesting, I have some savings to take care of COL so getting out completely debt free is not out of the question. That would be very nice and know that people would kill to be in my position. ASW will be helpful in my decision I am sure.

Johann just clarified his previous phototweet. I guess it means he is working (factory) on the fin aid awards (fin aid web page in the background). I wish LSAT questions were this easy.

Yes. Definitely. (unless by clerkship you mean SCOTUS clerkship)FlowBro wrote:Since we are talking about the worth of NU relative to debt taken on, is NU worth it on a full ride if my goals are Biglaw or Clerkship, not necessarily in Chicago?
Also, unrelated, but I want to give a plug for ASW, it's a great time and a great way to meet both current students and fellow 0Ls. Some of my very best friends here are people I met at ASW, and I felt really confident about my decision to go to NU after attending ASW last year.

I get it. Johann's pictures are of the financial aid office as if it were the Vatican. Prepare for scholarship decisions.

I am not that guy who wants to run the world...just looking to do something I enjoy and make sure the next 3 years in LS are a solid investment.Kikero wrote:Yes. Definitely. Any T14 at full scholly is a solid 3 year investment, especially one where BigLaw is likely. You can be a one-and-done dude at a BigLaw firm and walk around with like 70k in straight savings if you wanted to.FlowBro wrote:I am not that guy who wants to run the world...just looking to do something I enjoy and make sure the next 3 years in LS are a solid investment.Kikero wrote:Yes. NU doesn't have the best history for clerkships, but we've taken on a veritable genius to take it over and, from personal experience with her, I'm pretty confident saying we'll be all over that by the time it matters for you. As for biglaw, our placement is pretty solid, but 2Ls and 3Ls would be better suited to talk about this. I know a decent amount of 1Ls managed to lock down a 1L SA, so I guess that's a good sign, considering how tough those have been in the past.FlowBro wrote:Since we are talking about the worth of NU relative to debt taken on, is NU worth it on a full ride if my goals are Biglaw or Clerkship, not necessarily in Chicago?
unrelated: I'm leading a tour for ASW. GET READY, 5-7 0Ls

$105k today. UCLA's full-ride+$10k/yr is looking a bit less tempting now.
Dammit, I was hoping the decision would be crystal clear!

That said, a clerkship is still going to be a long shot coming from NU no matter what she does, just like it is at 99% of law schools. If you truly want a clerkship, any school other than HYS (and heck maybe not even H) is not the place to go. Though if you're okay with biglaw as well, NU is a good place to be.franklyscarlet wrote:NU doesn't have the best history for clerkships, but we've taken on a veritable genius to take it over and, from personal experience with her, I'm pretty confident saying we'll be all over that by the time it matters for you.FlowBro wrote:Since we are talking about the worth of NU relative to debt taken on, is NU worth it on a full ride if my goals are Biglaw or Clerkship, not necessarily in Chicago?
