Random question, probably already answered but: How do you hear about JS1s? Is it on the status checker or does an email come first?
Because I really should stop obsessively checking my status checker if I don't need to.
Thanks.

It'll come via an email first. Then you'll see it noted in the Mailings (or whatever its called) section of the status tracker after that.politics89 wrote:Random question, probably already answered but: How do you hear about JS1s? Is it on the status checker or does an email come first?

An email is sent and that email shows up on the status checker at the same time.politics89 wrote:Random question, probably already answered but: How do you hear about JS1s? Is it on the status checker or does an email come first?

But there's an extra "0" on the status checker 48 hours before the email comes.midwest17 wrote:An email is sent and that email shows up on the status checker at the same time.politics89 wrote:Random question, probably already answered but: How do you hear about JS1s? Man, we are embarrassingly easy to mess with, especially those of us who are anxiously awaiting a JS1 inviteTripTrip wrote: But there's an extra "0" on the status checker 48 hours before the email comes.

So the HLS 2017 Facebook page currently has 236, 7 of which are admins (who are presumably students/staff). Anyone want to speculate/extrapolate on how many offers have been sent based on this?

We would probably need someone who knows what the total number of members were at the end of last cycle.Nooblarzlarz wrote:So the HLS 2017 Facebook page currently has 236, 7 of which are admins (who are presumably students/staff). Currently the 2016 group has 643 members and Harvard had 865 offers. So just shy of 75% of those who received an offer last year have joined the page and continued to be a member. So conservatively, we could say 305 offers so far this year, but that's assuming the same admissions timeline and several other variables as well (most prominently being that several folks could have left the group in the past year).lawschool22 wrote:We would probably need someone who knows what the total number of members were at the end of last cycle.Nooblarzlarz wrote:So the HLS 2017 Facebook page currently has 236, 7 of which are admins (who are presumably students/staff). The c/o 2016 Facebook group has 643 members currently, which is about what it was at the beginning of fall semester. I don't think many current students have left the group, though a few may have joined it.koalacity wrote:Paging TripTriplawschool22 wrote:We would probably need someone who knows what the total number of members were at the end of last cycle.Nooblarzlarz wrote:So the HLS 2017 Facebook page currently has 236, 7 of which are admins (who are presumably students/staff). The reason it's larger than the class is because of staff involvement, rising 2Ls and 3Ls who joined the group, and applicants who ultimately went to another school but didn't leave the HLS group because, in their heart, they know HLS is better than wherever they went.
On a related note, I just realized that I can view group members by join date, which I could use to roughly deduce the acceptance date of everyone in my class. I don't think Harvard intended that!
Update: In looking that the group join dates, it looks like 60-70 students (10%) joined the group during or after orientation week. One of which I definitely peer pressured into getting a facebook account so she would stop missing all the event scheduling.

I would say the just below 75% figure makes sense, but it would be a bit lower for this cycle right now because presumably not everyone has joined yet. You aren't automatically added, you need to click a link in the email to join and request access. A lot of people (myself included) requested access the second we could, but I would guess at least a few people would wait to join until they decide they are going to HLS, no?

Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
There are probably some people who left last year's group, and also some people this year who have yet to join but who ultimately will. Let's say 30 people left (because I don't think most people leave Facebook groups once they've joined) so now you're looking at 78% (673/865), which gets to 303 admits. Add in the people who have yet to join (maybe 15-30?) and you're at around 318-333 give or take. So yeah, 315 makes sense even after taking in those other variables, maybe its just a bit higher.Nooblarzlarz wrote:Currently the 2016 group has 643 members and Harvard had 865 offers. So ~36% of all offers have been made at this point.lawschool22 wrote:There are probably some people who left last year's group, and also some people this year who have yet to join but who ultimately will. Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
I feel so torn. I really really want to hear something from Harvard, but being that I had my JS1 in early november, chances are that it would be better for me not to hear anything from them this week (i.e. no rejection or waitlist) so then I could hope that I'm apart of the infamous hold category...
BUT THE WAITING IS AGONY
