Are we the same person?goldenflash19 wrote: Thanks a lot for the advice. It's nice to have someone I can relate to on this. Almost everyone- both the few people in the legal market and the tons of people outside it- I have talked with agree that it's an objectively bad decision to not attend law school next year if I don't get Stanford. Stanford is just perfect, though, and is a combination of the two schools I'm considering, Berkeley and Harvard. I also hit up the Harvard ASW and loved it, but I'm legitimately petrified of being stuck in New York with 200K of loans. I was just kinda toying with the idea of not going, but thanks for pulling me back down to earth. My application isn't likely to change much, especially not to the point where it'd be worth burning bridges. Hopefully we all get into Stanford and this is just a moot point.

Alright, Dean Deal, it's 7:45 already in sunny Palo Alto ( I'm assuming sunny). Time to get up and make some acceptance calls before the weekend.

Just got the letter, and now I am at some small degree of peace having heard something from all schools. The sting of rejection was masked by getting a WL at NYU, my other straggler school, within an hour. Both are reach schools, so I'll take the WL and be happy.scoobers wrote:DLS right now, or just got the letter, or had some dream where Faye came to you and told you you were dinged?Glasseyes wrote:Dinged! I don't get it. It seems like a ton of schools that handle more apps than Stanford have all (or very nearly all) of their initial decisions out. Is it just that Stanford feels entitled to make so many of us wait by extending its process because they want to and they can?

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
I think the most important and totally missing piece of information is how many people they are still planning to admit. As some have pointed out, waiting until the last minute to provide people with an initial decision is not endearing, but maybe they'll play their Stanford is a special magical place card and rope you in regardless. We know they like to curate their class, that it is the smallest class in the top tier of schools, and that it is a highly desirable class to be in...so maybe they are justified in being hyper perfectionist about the last couple of spots, which could make a big difference. If this is just to make sure they put together the best, most awesome wait list they can make...which is going to be the way in for a handful of people and a tease for the vast majority...I think all the waiting becomes a big sadistic joke. Not providing a timely rejection is something I can't very well support either...I got all my waitlists and rejections months ago...what is all this? They obviously have tough decisions to make, but that's the case with everybody. It kind of reminds me of that episode of the Office where Steve Carrell has to fire somebody, but can't make up his mind...or maybe they just happen to be understaffed.Chalupa-Batman wrote:I don't get it. It's just so frustrating to see the "Your file has been submitted for review." message every. single. day. for months.

I have a friend who's pregnant who found out around the time I submitted my apps. She pointed out yesterday that if Stanford just holds off a little longer, she will have grown an entire human being in the time it has taken them to read my essay, look at my transcript and make a decision. That's pretty spectacular and put the hilarity of it in perspective for me.

I find that amusing. I also find it sad that when I read that she “found out" i assumed you meant she heard from Stanford.baconwrapped wrote:I have a friend who's pregnant who found out around the time I submitted my apps. That's what I thought until you pointed it out. Seems we are maybe a bit overly invested.Chalupa-Batman wrote:I find that amusing. Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
Does anyone know if anything was said during ASW about how much of the class is filled? Berkeley apparently said they were done during theirs, so maybe Stanford said something.
Waiting for Stanford is causing me to get a bit down.. It sucks to feel like you did your best and it wasn't enough. I wish I just knew so I could start dealing with whatever needs to be dealt with. I don't know if I should give it another try next year or feel like i'm "settling" elsewhere.
