Re: Stanford Law School 2011 Applicants (Pics)
Wednesday, March 30, 2011. I had just stepped in line to pick up my name tag
at the Registration table for Columbia's Admitted Students Days when my phone
jingled, as it has been doing often lately (TLS meet-up coordination for CLS/NYU).
In a pop-box, a voice-mail appeared. It was from a 650 number (Palo Alto, CA) --
a fact which was wonderfully, though uselessly, enforced by my iPhone. I knew what
was coming: the Dean's voice almost made my legs collapse.
I was shaking . . . terribly . . . and had to leave the building. The WiFi in
Morningside Heights is embarrassingly bad, so I've been holding this news in all day.
(Cardinals1989, my faithful CLS confidante, can attest to this.)

It's an optional essay that most law schools will accept, but don't always specifically ask for.fish52 wrote:Congrats! I'm incredibly jealous! What's the DS? Diversity statement? Re: Stanford Law School 2011 Applicants (Pics)
hey i've been on the road so didnt get to respond to #s questions. thanks for the congrats!
it looks like there's a thread where folks were trying to link me to LSN? i havent added the stanford admission to lsn so you wouldnt find me there. my numbers are pretty much just at stanfords 25% level (aka considered reject by law school predictor), and i didn't submit until january.
what i think made the difference for me was that all three LORs were targeted (with that additional cover letter form) and i wrote a very personalized LOCI about a month after i sent in my app in january. i also have a very targeted research interest and have published on that subject in law journals.
oh! and i commented on dean deal's blog a few times. i think that was the clincher.

Hi all - I've been following for a few weeks now so I thought I'd join the discussion and say hello. I'm abroad for the year so it's nice/scary to wake up and read through the previous day's posts -thanks to all for posting!! I'm still waiting also...UR mid-October, 169, 3.8ish, and nervous every time I check the status-checker!! 3 targeted LORs, DS (non-URM), PS, then LOCI and additional targeted LOR in mid-feb. Nothing else exciting enough to make you guys read. I'll put up on LSN under the same name in case anyone is curious. Good luck to all!

Re: Stanford Law School 2011 Applicants (Pics)
Ugh maybe I should scrap together a targeted LOR, none of mine were Stanford-specific. The whole targeted LOR seems so pointless, to be honest, since it's essentially the same as a non-targeted LOR but with "Dear Stanford" at the top. If it could help, though.... Then again it's probably too late. In a perfect world every law school would require the same application materials!

Re: Stanford Law School 2011 Applicants (Pics)
So I am just now getting my act together to write a LOCI for Stanford (UR since 1/19). Is it even worth it at this point? I didn't have anything Stanford-specific in my application except possibly a LOR. I say possibly because there was some confusion about which LOR got sent to Stanford, the generic or the targeted, and it was never really resolved, unfortunately.
I'm still working at the same job I had when I initially applied, and since I'm out of school I don't have new grades or anything. It would just be me talking about my love for Stanford. Worth trying to bang out today or tomorrow?

Re: Stanford Law School 2011 Applicants (Pics)
I'm convinced they pretty much know everyone's decision at this point. They're just taking their sweet time.
Out of over 4000 applicants last year, they only accepted 370 students. They haven't sent out anywhere near 3600 rejections yet, and they probably know who most of those 370 lucky students are. I'm sure that they've narrowed it down to 50-100 students who are wavering between waitlist and accept, and they're just taking plenty of time with everyone else.
Realistically, it's probably hopeless for all but about 3-4 people on the this board who's application has already gotten a first look (and therefore wasn't an auto admit or auto reject), but there's still a chance we could be in those lucky few. There's just no way to know until they finally break down and give us a decision.

I might be wrong, but I thought you were only supposed to send in a LOCI if you had some new significant information regarding your application or credentials.

Or if you get held and they suggest you send one, if you didn't do a targeted PS. Harvard and Columbia said that in their 'hold' emails.orioles88 wrote:I might be wrong, but I thought you were only supposed to send in a LOCI if you had some new significant information regarding your application or credentials.
