Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
I got the email that puts me in a "select small group on the preferred waitlist."
Does anyone know the odds of getting in off of that or when that typically would happen? I don't know what to think!

Man, I'm sorry guys! But on the bright side, at least they didn't make you wait a week for that email.

No email for me. Do we think waitlisting is done? What's left - rejections and accepts?

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
Shouldn't GULC be digging deep into their waitlist this year since the uptick in applications will affect them maybe more than any other school? Won't a lot of people applying to it as a safety end up withdrawing their apps?chinagator wrote:I got the email that puts me in a "select small group on the preferred waitlist."

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
My memory of last summer, either from the GULC WL thread or the splitter thread, was that GULC pulls proportionally from both preferred and non-preferred. But I'd need to find that post again. I remember it sticking out at me because people commented that it doesn't make sense to divide into an elite WL if it doesn't confer any better chance of admission.
Later maybe I'll try to find that post and see what the source was. Until then, I'd assume both that preferred WL is superior to regular, and that everyone on ANY waitlist should still make all due efforts if their interest remains. For my part, I'm going to begin a LOCI shortly. Assuming I don't get my ED acceptance, I'll send it off.
Everybody not rejected should assume Georgetown is still a possibility. They saw your file and numbers and by not rejecting you they are saying that you could do the work, that you could be a student.

Looking at the graph, it's funny I wasn't rejected.

Well, read the email closely. Last cycle GULC had 3 WLs.chinagator wrote:I got the email that puts me in a "select small group on the preferred waitlist."

Regular
Preferred
Preferred-preferred (small select group on the preferred) -> this pretty much means your YP material and a simple LOCI will immediately get you accepted.
Edit: The letter should make it clear you're on a "preferred-preferred." It said something like "a small select group on the preferred waitlist" or something like that.

If they haven't heard yet, I'm guessing they're accepts who get to wait for mail. Also, looking at LSN, those who marked 12/14 as a decision (but status still says pending) look to be admit numbers.sam7711 wrote:waitlisted. PT ED. DR 12/15.

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
Go back to the 12/1 debacle - people waited a week just to get reject e-mails. We're by no means safe. Some of the numbers I've seen are auto-admit and some of them are auto-reject. I expect that this will be a mixed batch and they are, rather deviously, timing the reject e-mail with the average expected arrival date of the acceptances.NancyBotwin wrote:If they haven't heard yet, I'm guessing they're accepts who get to wait for mail. Holy shit! I hadn't even noticed that my email has this language--"The Committee has designated you as part of a small select group within the Preferred Waiting List that will be given priority as spaces open up in the entering class." But I'm definitely not YP.hopefulundergrad wrote:Well, read the email closely. Isn't being ED the ultimate "stating GULC as top choice" though?hopefulundergrad wrote:Strong LOCI, explicitly state GULC is a top choice and presto!beef wellington wrote:Holy shit! Wow, thanks so much for the advice hopeful. So the email asks me to email a contact person and let her know if I'm interested in remaining a part of this "select group." Should this email be my LOCI? Originally I was going to send a note expressing interest and asking questions about the waitlist, how they like to receive LOCIs etc. And yeah, if China's ED why would they make him go through the formality of submitting a LOCI? Is your info from this cycle or are we the first batch of waitlisted RD applicants?

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
This is just how things worked last cycle. But yeah, you're right, they do give you a specific contact person. I would email the person and in the body of the email briefly mention you're interested in staying in the group and attach your LOCI to the email as a word doc (or PDF is you want to physically sign it).beef wellington wrote: Wow, thanks so much for the advice hopeful.
