Come here Doppelganger, gimme a hug
Everyone had this experience. You've still got a week at least.jrthor10 wrote:I submitted my complete application to Michigan over two weeks ago (1/6/11). On 1/12/11 I got an e-mail saying my application had been received, but not confirming it was complete, only still processing. The e-mail said I would receive an e-mail with a un and password for the status checker in 3-4 weeks from that e-mail.
This process is by far the longest to just getting complete of any the schools I applied to. Can anyone speak to having the same experience? Why is it taking a month + just to get me a user name and password for the status checker?
I'll tell you why: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oja8RXz6wb8jrthor10 wrote:I submitted my complete application to Michigan over two weeks ago (1/6/11). Yeah, oddly enough they offered me money.Minesweeper wrote:I'm not sure man, I think so. I'd love to squeeze money out of them, not sure how. I saw that you pulled off a 30k, right?
Georgetown had me interview on Friday, and I have a feeling I'm either a preferred waitlist or accepted. I'd keep my job at the embassy if I go to Georgetown during 2L & 3L.

Oooh, that sounds like a tough choice to make. One of the scariest things to me about going to Mich is the lack of jobs in the area so it's not likely that there will be anything for me to do part-time while still in school during 2L or 3L year. Having a job that you can keep is certainly a strong factor in your decision. But I would still after all that choose UMich over GTown.Minesweeper wrote:I'm not sure man, I think so. There is no way you have time to work 2L if you do a journal. I barely slept last semester between callbacks, Note, journal work, class, etc.JoeMo wrote:Oooh, that sounds like a tough choice to make. I wouldn't take the above statement to be unequivocally true. A friend of mine worked 60+ hours a week while in school at Georgetown PT, was on the Georgetown Law Journal, and still graduated top 10%. He said there were a few others in similar situations. And, although my friend, and those he knew of, were all PT students, it's hard to imagine the difference in 1 to 2 more classes, per term, for full time students equates to the same as 60 hours/week of full time employment.blowhard wrote:There is no way you have time to work 2L if you do a journal. PT is a huge difference. Each class is say 5-6 hours of in-class time a week. With ~2 hours of reading per hour of class minimum. (For commercial transactions, I had more like 3-4 hours per hour of class.) That's 18 hours per class per week just to be prepared and in class time...not briefing or other time wasters. Add in finals studying, outlining, etc. So, 2 classes is an additional 36-40 hours of work per week minimum.ScrabbleChamp wrote:I wouldn't take the above statement to be unequivocally true. Dude, doubt my math all you want. I put in 40-60 hours total during 1L no problem. A lot of times less. 2L, specifically 2L first semester, is downright hectic. My Note was a huge amount of time...but my original comment about not working was qualified with "if you do a journal." Like I said...I'm sure some can do it. I wouldn't plan on it by any means though until you're there and doing the course load. Everyone I know who worked 1L quit 2L.ScrabbleChamp wrote:Blowhard: I'm not trying to question your abilities or start an argument... I was simply stating a fact: I know someone that was able to graduate top 10% from Georgetown, participate in GLJ, work 60+ hours/week, and live to tell the tale.
Also, the poster to whom you directed your post said nothing about wanting to do LR, so your advice is a bit premature. Further, I just don't believe your math, and I was a math major. If you are honestly trying to make the case that 2 courses is equivalent to a 40 hour work week, than it is hard to imagine you've been successful enough to have earned a spot on LR and had so many call backs that you missed almost an entire month of class. Most successful students I've spoken to put in 40-60 hours a week and seem to be doing just fine, and some take more than 4 courses. Maybe it is due to innate ability and intelligence they only need to work 40-60 hours a week, though.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
