Congratulations. Just keep in mind that if you do visit now or later you are comparing apples to oranges because it is now that part of the semester.Genki wrote:I just flew out to NYC last week for NYU's ASW. NYU's activities were on thursday and friday last week, but I purchased a plane ticket that would get me in on Tuesday night in case Columbia sent me an acceptance between the time I purchased my tickets and the ASW dates. I arrived home at 2am this morning and THEN they decide to send me an acceptance email today. I don't think I'll be able to get the time off work again (or the money) to make another trip out to New York. I'm really happy to have gotten into CLS, but I just wish I had known while I was still in New York so I could have visited.potl wrote: Ah that's kind of my plan (arriving a day early), too. Are you just going to email CLS and ask if they can have someone show you around or something? I'm still waiting on a deadline extension for another school though, so I may not be able to visit at all if that doesn't work out.

I read the last couple of pages but I'm not totally clear on whats going on--have some people who applied ED but were held heard back that they're officially waitlisted?

Should we email our LOCI to Danielle Flores even if we've already emailed one awhile ago?whenwin wrote:Just got an email encouraging me to send in a LOCI. Was held in Feb.

The email says "if you have not already done so" re:LOCI. I wouldn't send in a second LOCI unless you have compelling new info. Numbers: 170/3.7+/URM femaleChiller303 wrote:Do you all mind sharing stats?QuasiAmbitious wrote:Should we email our LOCI to Danielle Flores even if we've already emailed one awhile ago?whenwin wrote:Just got an email encouraging me to send in a LOCI. I wonder if this is for borderline candidates or is also used as a mechanism for YP? The encouragement to send in a LOCI made me think that it could possibly be both...

Also: congrats to the new admits! Also: would it be helpful to say something along the lines of "Although I have already been accepted to -insert name of higher ranked school-, Columbia's ___ ____ ____ make it a top choice"? I.e. is it useful to mention higher ranked acceptances in conjuction with an expression of continued interest? I ask only because I've heard conflicting opinions on this. Thanks!

This probably did not go out to hold students that have already sent in LOCIs.

I really hope so, since I didn't get it, and it seems like the email is for people they are SERIOUSLY considering. Then again, I think I've sent 3 LOCIs at this point.luckycheartbeat wrote:This probably did not go out to hold students that have already sent in LOCIs.

I disagree the email clearly states that "We would like to encourage you, if you have not already done so, to submit a statement of continuing interest in Columbia that includes new pertinent information, if any."
also i sent an LOCI early on in my hold cycle and got the email

First, congratulations to everyone accepted!
It it just me, or does it seem like they're taking a lot of people with very high GPAs? Certainly many are not reverse splitters as they have pretty high LSAT scores too, but I haven't seen any traditional splitters accepted these past few days.

Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I wouldn't mention a YHS acceptance for a couple of reasons. First, each school has their own admission criteria (and target medians, 25ths/75ths, etc) and I doubt hearing that you got in elsewhere would make Columbia feel you were more worthy or desirable based on their standards. Second (and more cynically), I'm sure at this part of the cycle, schools are looking to protect their yield and if Columbia were deciding between a student with a YHS acceptance and one without one, they'd (rationally) be inclined to take the student more likely to attend, which in this case would be the one without the YHS acceptance (unless you say something to convince them that you'd definitely attend Columbia if admitted).Geneva wrote:Also: congrats to the new admits!
