I just posted this in the NYU admitted students thread but I sent them an email a week ago asking for a deadline extension and still have not received a response and I cannot even get a voice mail at the fin aid office. Little worried since the deadline is Monday....

FYI to all those wondering (I'm sure that's like, all of us), I would be sure to follow up on the request for a deposit extension. I submitted a request for one (granted I also have an appeal with NYU pending as well) and got it extended until next Friday. Total turnaround from submission of request to the extension being granted was only a day.

I'm depositing at NYU tomorrow just incase I get into CLS. Somehow, this makes sense.

Ok so finally got through to fin aid and they said they'd have an answer for me by tomorrow. But hearing that you only got an extension until the 26 worries me...I don't know if I'll have my CLS aid offer by then even if they extend the deadline and I really don't want to withdraw from Columbia without knowing about $$....

What happens if you sign off that you'll withdraw from all other schools but you don't?

I have no idea. Maybe call and ask admissions what their stance on that is? Better to be safe than sorry.

Also to be fair, I only asked for an extension until the 26th. Columbia's own deposit deadline is only a couple days later and if I haven't gotten an offer by then, I think I'm just going to have to decide. It's turned me off a little that NYU has been extremely responsive to every time I've contacted them and Columbia seemed to be more of the "screw you, you'll get the offer when you get it, go get extensions" mentality. Of course if they decide to be really nice to me I'll probably end up eating my words.

Columbia just handed me $0 very politely. Thanks, but no thanks. Looks like Chicago, or retake, barring getting into Harvard off the wait list. Good luck y'all!

Congrats to you both for getting nice offers! Looks like there is going to be a sizable contingent of TLS people on Monday which is interesting because I assumed the event would be small.

Depends on "right away": My file was complete in early March, I called Monday to ask them to email it to me, they sent it today. So no I would hardly say right away haha but its decent so I cant complain.

So can anyone explain this reserve business to me? I know how they describe it, but what's the effective reality?

TLS wisdom suggests reserve is all but ding. It is feasible to get in over the summer and has occurred, but very unlikely. I would act under the assumption you are not getting in -- Im sorry :/

my heart skips several beats whenever i see you've posted! so i called yesterday and asked what was up and the man on the phone was very polite. he asked for my info to see whether a decision had already been mailed (ding) and said they are still deliberating and i'll know within the month.

I REALLY hope we both get in.....I am too afraid to call! Within the month definitely sounds like a while unfortunately and by awhile I mean fingers crossed end of next week. UGH
