Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
I was an at ASW and asking people where else they were considering. No one even mentioned Stanford at first, but someone brought it up and everyone in the conversation just went, "oh yeah, still waiting on Stanford but I'm really not thinking about them now because I've gone so long without hearing anything." It's shocking to me that they would hold out so long while people go to other schools and enter the final stages of their decision-making.juicebox wrote:I heard so many people saying the exact same thing at H's ASW. I would have heavily considered going there if I had gotten in earlier, but now, given that I've already missed their ASW and met a bunch of cool people at Harvard's, there's almost no chance I don't enroll at HLS, even if Stanford ever gets back to me/admits me. This taking forever business must kill their yield.

fully expecting a WL at this point. Wish they'd pull the trigger already though

In past years, the WL letters have explicitly stated that they were finished with straight acceptances. So, orangec90 and others, when you get your WL letters, please report back and let us know if that language is still in the letter!wealtheow wrote:lastsamurai wrote:^i don't think they're really holding out. seems pretty clear we're in WL/ding territory at this point

Assuming it is, I'm afraid the Stanford ship has sailed without us. I go back and forth between profound sadness over and begrudging acceptance of this fact.

This could be true, but it'd be hard to believe, considering a huge number of people at Harvard's ASW still hadn't heard. One would think that of Harvard admits, at least a good proportion would get into Stanford.koalacity wrote:In past years, the WL letters have explicitly stated that they were finished with straight acceptances. I had totally given up hope and then a 1L at HLS told me that she heard back at the end of April and was straight accepted to SLS. She wasn't non-trad, wasn't URM. Of course she could have been mistaken buuuut it threw me off nonetheless.emu42 wrote:This could be true, but it'd be hard to believe, considering a huge number of people at Harvard's ASW still hadn't heard. Hmm doesn't SLS admit 400 while HLS admits 850? Seems probable that the overlap could be not as extreme as you're thinking...I know there's data on this somewhere...emu42 wrote:This could be true, but it'd be hard to believe, considering a huge number of people at Harvard's ASW still hadn't heard. data dump, using LSN figures from three application cycles (2009-2012):
464 H admits
114 Y admits
182 S admits
Total: 760 offers
CROSS-ADMITS = 166 total (receiving 382 offers)
50 HYS
3 YS, no H
71 HS, no Y
42 HY, no S
50, or 9.2%, of the admits are offered admission to all three.
116, or 21.3%, of the admits are offered admission to two of the schools.
378, or 69.5%, of the admits are offered admission to only one of the schools. (Of these, 301 were offered admission to Harvard, 58 to Stanford and 19 to Yale, according to my calculations.)
20% of Harvard admits get into Yale
26% of Harvard admits gets into Stanford
47% of Yale admits get into Stanford
81% of Yale admits get into Harvard
29% of Stanford admits get into Yale
67% of Stanford admits get into Harvard

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
I really don't understand why they don't just e-mail you your decision at this point of the application cycle, or at least show "Waitlist Offered" and another status name for denied on the status checker just like most other schools do. I mean, even Yale has the sensibility to e-mail you and let you know you are denied/waitlisted considering you have decisions to make at this point. Hopefully soon they will have received so many calls from people trying to know what their "DLS" means that they finally start to improve their status checker, or simply send an e-mail. For a $100 application fee, this is really not that much to ask for.

This waiting is miserable. But I think Faye knows the deal. It's Stanford. Are you really going to turn them down because you're upset it took them so long to admit you? I'll take an acceptance any way it comes.

But seriously, I know this does suck, but hopefully for some of us the patience will pay off. Stay strong everyone!

So, I've been thinking and I was curious to ask you guys:
IF Stanford doesn't work out (and I'm not saying it wont), what will you do next year?
IF Stanford works out, but gives you zero money, and you hear back between April 25- late May, then what will you do?

IF it doesn't work out, HLS
IF it works out w/ zero money and I hear back between April 25-late May, I will visit and try to decide. Will be really tough to make the decision without seeing normal classes in session and without an ASW and all associated programming. I am honestly not sure what I would decide.

It's pretty vague and doesn't preclude further acceptances.
