Well I got put on reserve post haste, so I think it is at least a decent sign.JamMasterJ wrote:I mean, I think hold at this point is pretty good. I hate to be negative but it looks like March holds were (almost?) all reserved eventually.

Why do you think they hold this late in the game instead of just WLing if they're gonna do it anyway?

I didn't go complete until early January, so the time of the hold isn't too scary for me.Blumpbeef wrote:Well I got put on reserve post haste, so I think it is at least a decent sign.JamMasterJ wrote:I mean, I think hold at this point is pretty good. I think for me all it means is I finally know that I won't be able to go to ASW next week while I'm in New York for the NYU one. Whether or not that'll stop me from attending if I eventually get in, I don't know.

I apologize if this question has already been answered but what is the difference between reserved and held at CLS? Is one better than the other? Is reserved the same as waitlist?
I was reserved today via email and I'm trying to figure out exactly what my chances are.

"The difference between the hold and reserve categories is that the initial review process is completed for candidates placed on reserve. Reserve candidates will not be reevaluated for admission until the summer months, as openings in the entering class materialize. Applications placed on hold are still being actively reviewed by the Committee, and hold candidates should expect to receive a decision (admit, reserve, or reject) by the end of April."

Same here. Though it seems like they're trying to get through the "silent holds" now, so we may be hearing something soon...Greenandgold wrote:+1 ... I just got placed on the Reserve...
All this wait list business reminds me that I truly have no clue how enrollment works. Is it possible to make a deposit at one school, be admitted lately to another, and ditch the former for the latter?

As others have said though, Reserve at Columbia is not great. Make sure to put down deposits to some safeties.

I've been on hold since February and was just placed on hold at Harvard today and rejected from Penn today. Since Columbia and Harvard are better than Penn, my Penn rejection makes me worry about what will happen with my holds.

You have nothing to worry about.. Did you indicate that you were a urm AA?Aqua wrote:I've been on hold since February and was just placed on hold at Harvard today and rejected from Penn today. It's really a hit or miss.. I know people wait listed/rejected at lesser schools and in at better ones. Just take it in stride.. It'll surprise you

Thanks for the encouragement! Yes, I indicated it but also indicated that I'm 50% German, so maybe I'm not URM enough for them? My friend who is from Ethiopia seems to be having a bigger URM boost. I figure that a hold is better than a straight up ding, bc at least they don't hate me?ru1ess wrote:You have nothing to worry about.. I've been on hold here for almost a month now. Any Feb hold people get accepted, waitlisted or rejected?

Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
My guess is in the next week. I think they will have a first tier that they really want, and if some of those decide to withdraw, they will move to other tiers. This is conjecture; I haven't looked at LSN to see how it went down in the past, but my guess is that they will need to admit some holds before the self-imposed deadlineFryBreadPower wrote:Curious when they are going to start dealing with the holds.
