I would bet on that first week of May or with their speed as of right now, 2nd or 3rd week of may when they accept more.

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
On the UT waitlist and just got offered $30k from Penn State.
They aren't ranked that far apart. Why is one chasing me and the other giving me the brush off? On top of it all, I'm a TN resident.
Think I can use this is leverage UT?
Argh!

I have withdrawn from UTK today. Good luck! I was not admitted... I was part of the status checker went blank crowd.

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
I would go to Penn State and take the money. It will probably be ranked above UT in a few years anyway. UT's admissions makes no sense. I have heard from people who got in with 3.5/157 and also those who got waitlisted with a 3.3/162. Both of which went to UT for undergrad.

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
has anybody with the blank status checkers turned in their seat deposits somewhere else yet? UTk is still my top choice, but since it looks like we aren't going to hear anything until at least May 1st I had to go ahead and mail in my deposit to LSU. Will this negatively affect my chances at UTk? Is there any way that they would know that I mailed in a seat deposit somewhere else?

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
I have not deposited anywhere else nor heard anything new (of course). But I would like to know about this as well. I'm going to be depositing tomorrow but would pick UTK if I was accepted. So, will they (or anything other school for that matter) know?southernboy wrote:has anybody with the blank status checkers turned in their seat deposits somewhere else yet? Re: In at Tennessee 2010
I think it's pretty standard for people to make deposits at schools and sometimes have to withdraw. That's why most schools have more than one seat deposit. Knowing that and the fact that they are aware of how late they are making the decisions, I would say it can't hurt you.

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
At the top of my status checker, it says...
"We are still considering your application. Hopefully, we will have a decision for you soon."
Has it always said this since the blankness began?
I checked mine because I thought the first deposit deadline was today (April 15) but it's May 1, right?

No, that's new for me too. Yeah, the first seat deposit is May 1, April 1 was their "decision" deadline.

OK, good. I swear I would have seen that at some point before now if it wasn't new. Although, I can't say this is any news really. It's probably just their way of keeping us interested in case they need some spots filled.southerngrace wrote:No, that's new for me too. Yeah this sounds like a ploy to keep us as puppets on a string if they have a empty slot then they might consider you again.

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
I was right. Got an e-mail saying basically that I've probably accepted an offer at another school (which I have) and that if I'm interested they'd let me know after May 1st. It's not a WL (nowhere did it say I was WL'd), it's basically YP and an avoidance of making a decision.
I withdrew. I'm not jumping through hoops for UT-K.

I got the same e-mail today too. Yes, I've moved on, so it doesn't really matter for me. But is it a polite rejection, or a waitlist?keg411 wrote:I was right. I am holding on, but starting to lose hope ....
Every time I get an email,a phone call or text on my status checker that was not there before, I get all excited and then let down.

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
Nice to see we are all continuing to get the same (lack of) information.
I guess a word to those people on the real WL is that I wouldn't hold my breath. It still seems like we are on some kind of preferred waitlist but they are just holding off on a decision to keep us interested.
I am probably going to reapply next cycle. UTK would have been a nice option but not a top choice and, even if it were top, I don't like our chances right now--banking on some people falling off after the second deposit. Should I fill out the pdf they attached or just send a nice email withdrawing my application and expressing my interest in applying next cycle?

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
It's definitely some type of preferred WL because they never actually call it a WL in the e-mail.

Those on the "real" waitlist, what did their email say?

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
I am planning on calling tomorrow and asking the following questions.
How many people accepted their offer of admission on april 1?
How many people are in the blank status group?
They have to know the answer to these questions. I'm tired of all this non-information they keep sending us via email.

Re: In at Tennessee 2010
just called UTK. here's the information that the lady gave me.
203 people accepted the offer of admission on April 1st. They are shootiing for a class size of 150 so this means that they are very overfilled
As of April 9th, 40 people had already sent in their 1st seat deposit.
She said that the admissions staff did not keep numbers of how many people were in the "blank" status checker group.
To be honest, this does not sound good for the waitlist people or the blank status checker group. I think I'm going to start making plans for LSU
