Same email here - question - reading the email it seems to indicate we should expect our package today? Anyone who got this email seen their packet yet?James.K.Polk wrote:In via email. In with a nice offer sometime in the past week and a half. $10k-$20k above my mylsn prediction. No mention of Woodruff, but I'm assuming I didn't get it.

Woodruff decisions don't go out for a while. Just because you got accepted and $ doesn't mean you're out of the running.mornincounselor wrote:In with a nice offer sometime in the past week and a half. $10k-$20k above my mylsn prediction. No mention of Woodruff, but I'm assuming I didn't get it.

I got the email today as well. No Woodruff but an "enhanced merit aid package." The package was waiting for me after work. I got $123k. Not enough to sway me to choose Emory, mostly because I recently learned how they accept tons of transfer students from Barry and John Marshall. I love Atlanta, and I'm sure the school is great. Good luck!

Can anyone speculate why Emory takes so long?

Because Georgia culture isn't one that values timeliness. This is deep South culture where people talk slow and make decisions slower.skyhigh4760 wrote:Can anyone speculate why Emory takes so long?

Re: Emory Law c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I'm a grad who sometimes looks at TLS during a free moment or two at work. Dont be turned off by Emory because of school funded jobs. Lots of top students go through graduation without a full-time gig locked in because there are only so many firms willing to hire a grad who has not even passed the bar yet. So grads sometimes have to use one of these school funded stipends to get their foot in the door and prove themselves for a few months, with the vast majority being hired once bar results come out. Its not shameful, its just how the economy and job market are these days. I know grads who started with the school funded stipend to get in the door at firms/companies, got their bar results back, and then were hired to $85k-$100k salaries by their employer who only took them in solely because they got a chance to "try out the grad" via the school funded stipend.HangingAround wrote:That just sounds absurd and, if true, pretty dark . I imagine it's more of a function of being in and reliant upon Atlanta which is fed by higher ranked schools in the region and has a limited number of jobs for Emory (which is still a lot but not as many as they really would need not being a national school). I don't doubt that their school funded fellowship program sometimes or even often leads to people getting hired after their one year fellowship, but the fact of the matter is that providing a fellowship for a year allows them to count that person as full time employed. For those who don't read into the numbers and I think for the rankings , this is a huge help. I mean it's better than being unemployed but definitely something to be aware of and worth questioning why other schools don't need to do it to nearly the same degree.cecrum wrote:Last numbers I saw actually put it closer to 1/4 (Emory has the highest number of school funded positions). When I was talking to some administrators earlier, I was told this is because of the transfers that we take being so high. Transfers dont touch our medians and pay tuition, so the school likes to have them to help buy other candidates. They are often from schools like Barry and John Marshall and dont have a good chance of succeeding anyway. I'm not really sure what that should mean to anyone making choices, but thats the explanation I was given.James.K.Polk wrote:In via email. Re: Emory Law c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Certainly not shameful and I'm sure it works out for plenty of people. But I think it's a bit more accurate to call it how the economy and job market of Atlanta works now (with my expectation that many of the positions are there). Even with the reasonable issues you bring up, Emory still has a much higher school funded rate and, also, lower normal employed rate (73%) than other schools of similar rank (WashU does 6% school funded, Vandy does 11% and have significantly higher normal employment percentages (79 and 83%)). It'd be great if schools in general published information on employment of those after their school funded position, but don't. The anecdotes are great but that's a lot of people in almost 1/4 of the class and it'd be nice to know exactly how that was playing out because a "majority" getting jobs through it, when added to the mid single digits unemployment, leaves the potential for a good portion unemployed, depending on how big that majority is. Still better than being unemployed completely, but every grad and school has to deal with this taking the bar delay and Emory's peers still get more employed initially. I think it's the Atlanta market.treeey86 wrote:I'm a grad who sometimes looks at TLS during a free moment or two at work. Dont be turned off by Emory because of school funded jobs. Did anyone else just get the "Emory Law: Applications Under Review" email from Dean Rosenzweig? It didn't really say anything particularly new or useful, so I'm feeling a bit confused...
