There is a wonderful book written about it, "Silence at Boalt Hall" (http://www.ucpress.edu/book.php?isbn=9780520233096). Here is my favorite law review article on this subject: http://scholarship.law.berkeley.edu/cgi ... alawreviewmohdban wrote:Do you have any links to these?garbagekitty wrote:Of course, it's a state-wide ban. I know they can't take race into account for undegrad admissions due to a past state referendum banning affirmative action, but I'm not sure if it applies to graduate programs in CA public universities as well.
Dean Moran said it best: "Boalt, like other law schools, only incompletely fulfilled the promise of diversity, despite the growing heterogeneity of its student body throughout the late 1970s, 1980s, and much of the 1990s. As Boalt enters the new century, its opportunity to capitalize on student diversity has greatly diminished, but its obligation to reflect on and reform the pedagogical process remains."

Re: UCLA Law c/o 2019 (2015-2016)
I know on Berkeley's application they redact the whole ethnicity/race section. They keep the info in case you are admitted, but no one in Admissions can see the info while they are deciding whether or not to admit you. So it would seem that URM status does not matter there, but if you included your race elsewhere in the application, like your PS, then it might have some sway, though no one in admissions would probably admit it.garbagekitty wrote:There is a wonderful book written about it, "Silence at Boalt Hall" (http://www.ucpress.edu/book.php?isbn=9780520233096). Re: UCLA Law c/o 2019 (2015-2016)
Hi all! I am from Southern California, but definitely looking to move close to UCLA if I attend and to live in either a studio or with a roommate in a 2 bedroom. Is it better to live on campus or find housing in West LA/Santa Monica? How easy is it to find a roommate/how would I go about doing this?

I went to UCLA for undergrad. I lived in the off campus university apts alone my first year, then in Santa Monica with a roommate my second (transfer student). Apts are crazy expensive here, definitely worth looking into getting a roommate. I think the university helps you get a roommate if you want one if you go through them to get your apt.JuniorBee2 wrote:Hi all! Would also recommend looking into getting a roommate. Apartments in Westwood are very expensive. If you have the money, you can live in the univeristy-owned apartments and they automatically set you up with a roommate unless you have someone specific you want to live with. A lot of UCLA students live in Palms/Culver City or Santa Monica becuase it's cheaper. Even Brentwood can be cheaper than Westwood.ProductofUnreality wrote:I went to UCLA for undergrad. In terms of finding a roommate, if admitted UCLA has a UCLA Law Class of 2019 Facebook page where you might be able to find someone. There's always Craigslist, too.

I don't know what the rent is in walking distance to USC, but DTLA is cheaper than Westwood as a rule.87mm wrote:Whoops, I mean CoL haha. USC has way higher tuition >_>

Does anyone know how/if ucla tends to offer scholarships? Just got my acceptance letter in the mail today with no mention of any money. I'm border line for money but was hoping for at least a little bit.

Re: UCLA Law c/o 2019 (2015-2016)
Last year, 49 people received more than full tuition scholarships. 8 got full ride. 450 got less than half tuition. Keep in mind, this is not just for the incoming class. This covers all attending students.TheWalkingDebt wrote:Does anyone know how/if ucla tends to offer scholarships? Just got my acceptance letter in the mail today with no mention of any money. Is anyone else who's been accepted having trouble accessing the admitted students section of the MyLaw whosiwhatsit? The link to it keeps vanishing half a second after the home page loads.

There are two different admitted student "receptions," (not sure if that's different from ASW), one on 3/7 and the other on 4/3.CerealMilk wrote:Hey! Does anyone know when the accepted student weekend is? Thanks!

Hm.. it's still not working for me.
