I'll PM you. Thanks!FairchildFLT wrote:What does your LES say? That is what they'll want to see a copy of.Navyhornguy wrote:I have an interesting question. I've had a couple of schools ask me what was up with my residency because my permanent address is in Washington state because I'm stationed up here with the Navy, but I have Texas listed as my state of residence. Being active duty I do not have to change my state of residency and I did not on purpose for law school applications. I'm wondering if maybe UT has me classified as an OOS candidate because of this, and I'm wondering if it is worth bothering admissions again (I'm on the WL and trying to keep my communication with admissions pretty scarce for a while in hopes of not pestering them) and clarifying this. Thoughts?
Nice to see another veteran heading into the class. I was accepted last year, deferred, separated from the Air Force, and moved to Austin in November. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I actually found UT to be pretty responsive - in fact, they were downright proactive. I applied as an OOS applicant (I joined the military from Texas, but unlike Navyhornguy, I changed my residency to Virginia while I was on active duty). After I was accepted, the school contacted me out of the blue and basically said "We think you actually qualify for Texas residency for tuition purposes; why don't you fill out this questionnaire?" I filled it out, and they reclassified me as in-state, although to this day I'm not sure how they justified it.BVest wrote:I can't recall if UT ever communicated to acknowledge residency status during the application process, but I recall that UH was fairly communicative about it (even though they got it wrong for me until I corrected them).

Re: University of Texas c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I'm just worried that they might have considered me an OOS applicant and that it might have hurt me. I can certainly prove my residency with my LES. Oh well, I'll clarify with admissions if they ever respond. It's funny how communication grinds to a screeching halt when you get put on the waitlist. Got the 'Why Texas" invite...should this stick to a page like other supplemental essay?

IMO, if you've got anywhere near a full page of substantive content that answers "Why Texas", that should be more than enough. I have extremely strong ties, and I think mine was ~200 words.BillClinton Jr wrote:Got the 'Why Texas" invite...should this stick to a page like other supplemental essay?

My "Why UT?" essay was one-page, double spaced. I was OOS. Full disclosure: this was 2 years ago.

OOS applicant, submitted mid-December and preemptively emailed a "why texas" a couple days later-- got an email requesting an interview this morning... Wondering if I should've waited on the why texas. Anyone interviewed with ut? This will be my first and I'm feeling the nerves!

I'm an OOS splitter and I've had no contact since I went complete on 12/1. Should I consider sending a Why Texas? Is that even a possibility?

It's been taking them a couple months after going complete to get back to people, so I wouldn't be too worried.HawkeyeVodka34 wrote:I'm an OOS splitter and I've had no contact since I went complete on 12/1. Should I consider sending a Why Texas? Is that even a possibility?

You definitely can, just email it and they add it to your file. I did this shortly after I submitted but just received an email inviting me to interview that states: " In previous years, we have often asked out-of-state applicants to submit a Why Texas Law? statement, highlighting their reasons for wanting to attend Texas Law. This year, we wanted to offer you the opportunity to participate in an interview so that we may learn a little more about you and your interests and so that we may answer any questions you have about Texas Law. "HawkeyeVodka34 wrote:I'm an OOS splitter and I've had no contact since I went complete on 12/1. Should I consider sending a Why Texas? Is that even a possibility?
I'm wondering if I would've been better off saving my "why texas" essay to have more fresh topics to discuss during the interview. Sounds like interviewing may be a new thing for UT.. Anyone have any info on this?

Yeah...Definitely increases the nerves a bit not having people's past experiences to reference/learn fromlymenheimer wrote:New dean = new policies/practices.rychellemarie wrote:You definitely can, just email it and they add it to your file. No doubt. Also makes it less expedient...which is painful enough not throwing in new stuff. Oh well.rychellemarie wrote:

IN BY PHONE CALL!!!

In-state, went complete Nov 4. Above 75th for LSAT, way below 25th for GPA.
As someone who started the law school admissions process thinking U of H would be a reach, this was basically my reaction.

^Congrats man! They are seriously valuing the LSAT over anything else this year so I'm not surprised at all.

Tell me about it. If I get off the WL I'm married to an Aggie and I went to Arkansas. Both schools hate UT. Lol.BirdLawExpert wrote:Thanks, y'all! I'm glad y'all are happy about it because my huge Aggie family is going to have mixed feelings, for sure
