Re: SMU Dedman Law c/o 18 Applicants
Did anyone who went complete around 1/30 get admitted recently? I'm really needing to hear back so I can get all negotiations and all that done before the deposits start coming up! Thanks!

Re: SMU Dedman Law c/o 18 Applicants
Hi Guys I had a question for those whose application has been "held" not waitlisted but "held for further review"
I applied to SMU on 11/03. On 01/20 I received an e-mail telling me my application was held for further review and would be re-evaluated with regular admissions applications.
On 02/10 I sent in an updated resume and personal statement after a recent job promotion and I also attended a pre-law symposium about a month ago.
However, it has been two months since that e-mail and I have heard nothing at all since then.
What has been the experience of others who have had their application held? Timeline?
Thanks
.

UTD comet? And SMU goes very slow. I wasn't held, but its not WL'd. It just means that they're probably re-reviewing your app. An LOCI wouldn't be a bad idea for sure.Comet123 wrote:Hi Guys I had a question for those whose application has been "held" not waitlisted but "held for further review"

As somebody who REALLY wants to attend SMU, it's difficult when I have BETTER offers from so many others: BC, GWU, Wake, Tulane. Totally venting. Meh.

Cool. I also live near UTD. Did you receive a phone call or e-mail when you were admitted? Ive seen some postings where people get phone calls.ilikebaseball wrote:I live literally across the street from UTD.Comet123 wrote:ilikebaseball wrote:UTD comet? And SMU goes very slow. I got a phone call, but my status changed before I got the call, so I was expecting it.Comet123 wrote:

Cool. My LSAT is near the 25% for SMU but my GPA is at the 75 mark but I wrote an LSAT addendum and a good personal statement so I'm hoping I get in. Ive been accepted into other good law schools (Maryland, Colorado-Boulder, Texas Tech) but I am holding out for smu.
Waiting still sucks..

Ironically, Maryland took longer to answer me than SMU (above 75th, at the 25th GPA). But you'll be alright. Check lawschoolnumbers.com for a better look at your chances and if you'll get any $$Comet123 wrote:ilikebaseball wrote:I got a phone call, but my status changed before I got the call, so I was expecting it.Comet123 wrote:

Re: SMU Dedman Law c/o 18 Applicants
I sent mine in and the response I got was something like"this is the first time we've ever done scholarship reconsideration so there is no way of telling if your attempt will be successful."
Still don't expect anything, but I'm slightly more optimistic

i e mailed them a week or so ago & they said they would be sent out by April 1st so people could make their decision with the new awards before the deposit is due

Is it weird that my status checker says Application complete with no dates at all with no current status date like every other school has or am i just overanalyzing things??

It's what Georgetown does for their school as well. Both my checkers been like that at both schools for over a week now. Maybe, it cuts down on student criticism by having the meaningless "file under review" status when it may be in the pile for a few more passes.Rstein888 wrote:Is it weird that my status checker says Application complete with no dates at all with no current status date like every other school has or am i just overanalyzing things??

the date disappeared on a lot of our status checkers right before we got a decision. If you never had a current status date, thats a different story.

Re: SMU Dedman Law c/o 18 Applicants
If y'all have any questions or want to talk through the SMU decision, feel free to PM or ask here. I'm a 1E, I enjoy law school and SMU and have done well but I don't think it is the only/best path for everyone. Also, I've been in Dallas for over 5 years and know the area very well.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
