hahahaha, omg, this Michigan thread has become an investigative one. Dean Z, if you are lurking here, I bet you'd be glad how insane we went for Michigan, so insane that we would freak out over a delayed status update, an unexpected admission wave, a discrepancy between last cycle's situation and this year's one. But yeah, I think there will be another wave tomorrow according to c/o 2017 thread

Did anyone else receive an email from a 3L encouraging you to submit an application? I submitted mine last week and just got the status checker.

Re: Michigan Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
Considering most people here (some of whom applied the first day) have yet to receive a Mich decision I doubt that there is a large enough sample to be meaningful at this point. Also keep in mind acceptances will come out much earlier than WLs/rejections. I think the following two links should be helpful to you:Lions1913 wrote:What seems to be the average wait between status checker and a decision being made? I'm curious about this for not just Mich, but all schools too.
http://mylsn.info/r/pre-law/timeline/chart/
On mylsn.info you can sort by school and month submitted and see when decisions came back.
http://michigan.lawschoolnumbers.com/applicants
The applicants tab is super helpful, you can select a cycle and sort by complete date or decision date (or a number of other things).

Current 3L here. I'll check back every once in a while if anyone has questions about life at Michigan.
This was a joke. It was quoted wayyyy out of context. We have a schoolwide student only listserv that's primarily used for things like selling textbooks, but every once in a while someone sends out an elaborate joke. A few years ago, for example, someone sent out this on April 1 and edited his name to look like it came from the Registrar's Office:

Office of the Registrar wrote: Dear 1Ls,
Although some of you have already received letters informing you of the Law School’s revised Exam Policies and Procedures, errors in our address system have caused many of these letters to go undelivered. As a result, we are using the student listserve to ensure that everyone is aware of the new exam procedures introduced for the Winter 2013 semester.
Unlike the final exams taken during Fall Semester, these exams have been designed by faculty to simulate real world legal challenges. Deans Caminker and West have chosen the 1L class to debut these new exams. You may visit the Registrar’s Office at any time to further discuss these changes.
PLEASE READ AND FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE FOLLOWING EXAM DESCRIPTIONS.
LAW 510 – CIVIL PROCEDURE (COOPER/HURLEY)
Deadlines are critical in civil procedure. If you miss a filing deadline, your case will be dismissed, your client will be furious, and you may be subject to a malpractice suit. This year’s Civil Procedure exams will replicate the intensity and stress involved in meeting a filing deadline.
Students will be given a 200-page case file and asked to draft specific pleadings or motions based on said case file.
At any time during the exam, your case file may be replaced with another case file that takes precedence.
At any time during the exam, the professor may revise your assignment (for example, by requesting that you draft a Rule 56 Motion for Summary Judgment instead of a Rule 8 Complaint).
At any time during the exam, the professor may rule on your motion and require you to draft an appeal. If the ruling is interlocutory and thus not appealable, you must instead draft a memo to the professor explaining why an appeal would be improper.
At any time during the exam, you may be given a Supreme Court opinion that recalibrates your basic understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure.
This exam is a 48-hour in-class examination. Students will NOT be allowed to sleep during the exam period. Coffee, tea, and Red Bull will be provided to students.
LAW 520 – CONTRACTS (FRIER/SANTAROSA)
Reading the small print is critical to understanding contracts. It does no good to memorize the UCC and the Restatement if you are incapable of reading the contracts at issue. This year’s Contracts exams will measure your ability to quickly and accurately analyze the fine print of a contract.
Contracts exams will be distributed via special PDF files. The exams will require you to read and interpret sales and/or service contracts. Initially the font size of the contracts will be standard 12-point Times New Roman font. Each half hour of the exam, the font size will automatically shrink by 1 point. Thus, the font size will be 10 point after one hour, 8 point after two hours, 6 point after three hours, 4 point after four hours, and basically illegible 2 point after five hours.
This is a six-hour take-home examination.
LAW 530 – CRIMINAL LAW (PRESCOTT/STARR)
When you are meeting with a criminal defendant or studying a police report, you must be able to quickly and accurately determine which acts are criminal and which ones are not. Is there mens rea? Is proof of mens rea required for this crime? Were the individual’s actions justified or excusable? An accurate criminal law exam must test your knowledge of the Model Penal Code and relevant case law in a high-stress, fast-moving setting similar to what you see in practice.
This year’s Criminal Law exams will be divided into two one-hour sections.
Section One of the exam requires you to play a pre-release copy of Grand Theft Auto V while your Criminal Law professor observes. As you play the game, you must announce the black letter law or provisions of the MPC that your avatar is violating, the elements of said crime, and whether your avatar has any plausible defenses to said crime. Students will be graded both on the number and variety of crimes their avatar commits, as well as the student’s accuracy in identifying criminal law issues raised by their avatar’s actions. This section of the exam will take place in the Law School game room.
Section Two of the exam will be conducted in HH 100, with both ABCD and IJKL in attendance. Professors Prescott and Starr will play a co-op version of Grand Theft Auto V while also using microphones to communicate with one another. As in Section One of the exam, students must identify claims and defenses raised by the actions within the video game. This section will also test a student’s knowledge of conspiracy and accomplice liability based on the dialogue between the professors.
This year’s Criminal Law exams are sponsored by Rockstar Games.
LAW 540 – INTRODUCTION TO CONSTITUTIONAL LAW (MORTENSON/PRIMUS)
What qualifies as interstate commerce? Which classes of individuals should be entitled to heightened scrutiny? When may Congress interfere with state sovereignty? Most law schools attempt to answer these questions by reference to the Constitution and relevant case law. But serious Constitutional law scholars know that the answer to these questions is “Ask Justice Kennedy.” The greatest Supreme Court litigators of our time are the ones who tailor their arguments to what Justice Kennedy wants to hear.
Therefore, this year’s Constitutional Law exams will require you to read Justice Kennedy’s mind. Justice Anthony Kennedy has agreed to visit the Law School during the exam period. He will sit at the front desk of South Hall 1225 for the full three-hour examination period. Students will be required to write down what they think Justice Kennedy is thinking during this time. The professors will not limit Justice Kennedy’s imagination and will instead give him free reign to let his mind wander.
Following the exam, Justice Kennedy will inform Professors Mortenson and Primus of his private thoughts during this three-hour exam period. The professors will then grade exams based on how close each student came to describing Justice Kennedy’s musings. To the extent Justice Kennedy thinks about cases not assigned during the course, students will be credited for identifying cases within the same general area of constitutional scholarship. Partial credit will be given for reading the minds of Professors Mortenson and Primus, however such imprecise telepathy is not a substitute for mapping Justice Kennedy’s stream of consciousness.
There is no word limit for this exam.
LAW 560 – PROPERTY (SCHNEIDER)
Pierson v. Post is the most important case in the history of American property law. However it is not enough to read and analyze this case. One must actually live it. This year’s Property exams will test students’ ability to establish a valid claim to ferae naturae using the legal principles established in Pierson v. Post.
Property exams will be conducted at Professor Schneider’s private nature preserve located outside of Ann Arbor. Students will be provided with hunting rifles and hounds, as well as bright orange safety vests and safety goggles. Students will then be given six hours with which to hunt foxes in the preserve. Zero points will be awarded for the identification and pursuit of foxes. Full credit will be given for the successful killing or capture of foxes. In cases in which one student injures a fox but another student captures or kills the fox, Professor Schneider will distribute credit based on Pierson’s principles. Students need not be familiar with any other property law cases for this examination.
Buses will take students to the exam site on the morning of the exam. Students will also be given a one-hour gun safety lesson upon arrival at the site.

I lived in the lawyers club last year (odd that anyone still thinks it's still under construction). It's great. Unless you have a family or pets or really like to cook, it's the best place to live as a 1L. Very nice and super convenient.sucsuroc wrote:Current 3L here.
