Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
Hello guys.
I am an international applicant and out of college for 17 years, and English is my second language.
While preparing my application, I came across a couple of problems.
So any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Under Question 9:
"What do you consider your hometown?" - I am not sure why this question is phrased this way, instead of asking "what is your hometown?"
And I took the LSAT several times. My score ranges from 156 to 169 (Oct. 2014).
Do you think it will be helpful if I add an addendum explaining the score difference?
(like how I improved my score)
Or would the admissions contact me for explanation?
And finally I am wondering if I have a shot at WUSTL, given my age and low GPA (3.15).
Thanks in advance.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
I think you are in because of your LSAT score. Washu is very splitter friendly. Also, like most schools, washu only considers the highest score. I don't think an addendum is necessary, but they may ask you about the lower score in your interview, so be on the lookout for that.fairhope71 wrote:Hello guys.

Age won't be a big deal either, we have at least two people in our class that look like they are in their late 30's or so.
We have plenty of people here who speak English as a second language, so you would be far from alone in that regard.
Not really sure how to answer the hometown question, I'll let someone else address that. Good luck!

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
As a dude that has lived in many places, I think I can answer the OP's question.
I have found in many cultures, especially outside the US, "where one is from" is one's hometown. It's almost synonomous with "where one is born". I have many friends, when asked where they are from or even where they live, give the place of their extended family's long-term residence, even if they haven't occupied a home in that area for years, or in some cases, generations.
North Americans are more migratory than most others. Typically, where we were born has no meaning, and I don't have a discrete place of childhood residence. I've lived in at least 10 places for over a year. I pick, as my hometown, the place I want to culturally identify with the most. When one identifies with a particular place, it says alot about them, and in our case, more than where we were born.

Thank you very much for your kind advice. I was about to move the post to another thread, realizing that this thread may not be for questions about application. Until September, Top 20 schools weren't on my list. So I am kind of nervous and excited.LET'S GET IT wrote:I think you are in because of your LSAT score. Washu is very splitter friendly. And with a possible interview (I am not sure that's mandatory), I already have butterflies in my stomach.
Thank you again. I'd love to be in St. Louis this time next year.

Interviews seem to be mandatory.
However, with a 169, you should have nothing to worry about.

Don't stress about the interview. They are super nice and put you at ease. You will be fine.

It's more of an informational interview than anything else.fairhope71 wrote:Thanks a lot. I hope the interview doesn't prove to be a major setback.scottidsntknow wrote:Interviews seem to be mandatory.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
My question was about whether to write an addendum explain why I took the LSAT multiple times, why there is a huge gap between the lowest and the highest scores, etc.scottidsntknow wrote:What questions do you have?
LET'S GET IT told me that won't be necessary. And it may come up during the interview.
Wow, I just got a mail from the Admissions Office. They gave me the same answer and a fee waver code.

Does anyone know how long it generally takes for admissions to make a final decision about your application? I've noticed that some applicants receive acceptance notifications rather quickly - just wondering if there is an "average" time frame?

If it's anything like last cycle, it will vary pretty wildly. Some people were accepted within a week or two, others were waiting 2 or 3 months for a decision. I hear they are supposed to be speeding the process up this year, but I bet an average time would still be hard to nail down.LS2018 wrote:Does anyone know how long it generally takes for admissions to make a final decision about your application? I could be wrong on this, but I think I've read that GPA isn't nearly as important for international students (for a number of reasons), and they are judged even more heavily on LSAT score. If you are applying to the LLM program, this could be good for you.

LLM doesn't require an LSAT score. I am applying JD.

If they don't give much importance to GPA, I will be happier.

Anybody else gotten an email asking them to call the person that interviewed them at a specific time?
Not sure how to read this and my day is shot until I get to call.
