Sheraton has a nice inner courtyard pool area that'd be a good spot to meet up. I'll probably be sitting by the pool reading from noon onward and enjoying the first real sun I've seen in monthshoneybadger12 wrote:I'm in. I'll be at SheratonManOfTheMinute wrote:Lets do this.bernaldiaz wrote:

I'm also curious about this. Are Munger and Escondido Village the only close-proximity options for couples housing?testaker wrote:Hi. Does anyone know - for any 1Ls that opt to not live in Munger (i.e. maybe are moving with a significant other), where/what neighborhoods do they usually live in? I haven't been admitted but am considering driving around the area at some point this weekend and wanted to take a look at the potential housing stock and was wondering this. Thanks!

Re: In at Stanford: Class of 2016
Just looked over the graduate student housing pamphlet to try to answer your question, and there are three options for couples without children: Escondido village (1635-2010 per month), Munger (1679-2195 per month) and "off campus subsidized housing" (1622-1635 per month). For couples with children the only option is Escondido village.PRgradBYU wrote:I'm also curious about this. Thanks for the reply. I'm realllllllllly unfamiliar with Palo Alto, so take this with that grain of salt, but does it seem like anyone eschews Stanford-related housing altogether, and lives in completely off-campus, unaffiliated apartments? If so, does anyone know where those tend to be located?

From what I've heard it's crazy expensive off campus (but I havent looked). me and my s.o. will be in escondido village if I end up at Stanford. cheaper than munger and still very nice (duplex 1 bedrooms >>> my tiny NYC studio)testaker wrote:Thanks for the reply. Friday can't get here fast enough. I have a feeling Stanford will blow all my other choices away this weekend.
I'm staying with a relative who lives in Atherton (close, but not walking distance from Palo Alto) so I don't know if I can meet up Friday night. I'll see what cab fare would be like.

Re: In at Stanford: Class of 2016
Housing off-campus is insanely expensive, so most of us 1Ls live in either Munger or EV. That's generally true of couples as well—EV is just so much cheaper (and so much closer) than off-campus places that it's hard for 1Ls to really look elsewhere.
That said, living away from campus isn't really all that uncommon 1L year, and loads of 2Ls and 3Ls live off-campus (many because they choose to, and some because they didn't get campus housing).
Those that do live off-campus are scattered; most are probably in Menlo Park and Palo Alto—getting much farther away than that makes for a commute. I know of a few in Mountain View. It's pretty common for 3Ls to relocate to San Francisco and come down like twice a week for "class" and "studying."

In all seriousness, Dean Deal just wrote to say dress code is casual and temperatures will be in the 70s, which sounds like a pretty good summary of Stanford in general.

Is there a reading we're supposed to do in advance of the mock class this weekend?

Yeah, the minority preview day looks intense - I'm thinking about crashing the 10pm event at Nola.
Kinda jealous about that Baker & Botts social though...
