just got the status update email from lsstatuscheck - Berkeley added all of my biographic/contact info to my status checker today (I didn't even notice it wasn't there before...). that must mean I'm admitted or about to be, right?

hmm. mine was there from day 1. biographic/contact info such as email, phone number, address, right?

I'm not sure if mine has always been there, but it's there now. I hope it means I'm in. Lol. Unlikely.

Just got in via phone call - really excited and frankly surprised to recieve it so early since my GPA is slightly below median and I've always heard they place a lot more emphasis on that than on the LSAT. Went complete on 10/25. Good luck to all those waiting!

Everyone starts out under administrative review (Dean Tom). If you're a maybe, then they send you to the faculty committee sometime in February. They'll send out e-mails around then letting people know if they're under faculty review.

same boat. mine says last updated 10/24, so I'm assuming they just haven't gotten around to changing it yet. if date changes past phone call date and status still says that, i'd obviously be more concerned.

Checking in to say that nobody should be writing themselves off from Berkeley this cycle - got my acceptance call last night with a gpa right around their 25th (lsat above 75th). This is definitely unusual for them according to TLS/LSN.

Thanks for taking questions, Mike. Recent cycles seem to have been relatively kind to splitters (which I'm using to mean people below a target school's GPA median, but above its LSAT median). Do you foresee the current cycle to proceed even further in this direction? I'm relatively risk-averse, but I'm wondering if this could be a time to, for instance, ED CLS instead of NYU.

Swimp, I've thought and looked long at hard on this. I'll answer from two perspectives.

For applicants, yes I think this cycle will continue to be kind on splitters, probably even more so than last year. This makes sense because high LSAT scores will be coveted, and law school place a premium on LSAT scores (too much so, fyi, at many schools) because of their slightly heavier weight in US News rankings. So with a continued emphasis in keeping LSATs at or above last year's medians coupled with a downturn in the supply of high LSAT scores (but not a downslide in Ugpa), I think this will be a very friendly splitter year.

My second answer is that if I were an admissions office, I would do the exact opposite. Strategically, I would fold my cards, per se, and shoot early to keep my LSAT stable and would target a high uGPA. But, since no one here is a law admissions office this is sort of me thinking out-loud.

Great news for a lot of folks but it doesn't seem to bode well for those of us who have neither a 3.9/4.0 nor a 170+.

Two years WE at a large firm, strong professional and academic recs, solid leadership in UG, compelling PS/DS (I like to think and I have been told). We'll obviously know more at the end of the cycle, but as pointed out above I think I am (happily) the result of more systematic leniency rather than a singled out exception.
