I think I'm going to wear like a professional-type shift dress and heels...gosh. i don't really understand what's going to happen at the reception...hopefully it's fun not awkward!

are you above medians? all I've gotten is an email today saying they received my stuff...which I sent over a month ago -_-. It excited me for a second.

I got the "we got your forms" e-mail too. Above one 75ths, below another median.

#NoBribesifyouApplyED I guess.

I think it'll be a meet-and-greet type of thing--maybe an opportunity for us to see how tight-knit the alumni network is so that we can see the benefits of going to Hastings? That's my guess. Can't wait!!!

The alumni have been great so far. I did a mock interview with an alum who works for the DOJ here in SF. We've been keeping in touch by email and she recommended I contact a few other people and gave me their e-mail addresses.. just super nice.

Also above the medians and also got a similar email saying they received my info. So is everyone thinking this means that we're receiving no merit-based scholarship? That would be horrible.

same, I'm at 75% for each. 15k was the max in scholarships per year right? Looking at LSN that doesn't seem to be much money out yet. There's one with 45k and 8 with 30k....

Edit: looked at last years cycle and only 12 people had >30k. C'mon Hastings, you are making it hard to resist Irvine.

A friend of mine (who is in law right) told me if I got into both Hastings and Davis, I can try to play them off of each other to get $$. Is that a good idea?! I'm sure lots of people got into both Hastings and Davis. How would I go about doing that anyway? Email them?

And another confusion~ so there are financial aid, scholarships, grants, and loans... when people put $$, does that mean grants? How are those different from financial aid and scholarships?

US News says employment at graduation 40%... is that a joke?! Davis is at 80-something%.

Dropping two spots really isn't a big deal. 0Ls care much more about the rankings than any students, etc. If it makes you feel better though, the dean did establish a committee to address the rankings this year and he wants to concentrate on improving. Also, it is a well known fact that Davis totally inflates their employment data.

I saw this on another thread on this site. It's what law firm recruiters think of schools. I compared the first 25 to what was on the US News site and it looks pretty legit. I couldn't find the full list on the US News site. I'm not sure what year this is for, but I'm sure it hasn't changed much. Notice the difference between Hastings (28) and Davis (43):

Interestingly enough, that is good news for us. Davis fell 6 ranks, so relatively speaking Hastings increased by 4. Hopefully now that the Strategic Plan has been implemented we will start rising back up to where we used to be (#19 at one point). --LinkRemoved--

In terms of how Law Firms and Judges rank law schools (which is the ranking that affects us if we want to become lawyers as opposed to becoming professors) we now lead Davis by 15 ranks, an increase from our previous lead of 10 ranks.

I also noticed that we moved up one rank on the Dispute Resolution rankings. If I ever find out what Dispute Resolution is, I will be superexcited about that. ;)

congrats on everyone who has been admitted and good luck to those waiting/on the waitlist.

your class will be the first to be reduced by around 20% so it seems there will be less acceptances.

They are serious about cutting back on class size this year? I'd expected that to be the kind of thing that would be perpetually postponed.

First I was impressed by their employment reporting, now I am impressed by their steps to cut back. That's fantastic.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
