I'm guessing that "enjoy autumn/feel free to contact a UVA 2L like you" email didn't mean anything in terms of admissions status? Got the email but no status checker update or phone call here.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Sounds like everyone got it that hasn't heard already.mattbarnes123 wrote:I'm guessing that "enjoy autumn/feel free to contact a UVA 2L like you" email didn't mean anything in terms of admissions status? Did you express any particular interest in a program?
Maybe that was the criteria? IDK, we'd just be speculating either way at this point and I personally would try not to read anything into it either way. We just don't know what goes on with any of these contacts it seems. Why some people get called or emailed first, why some tick over, why some take 10 days....its all just speculating for each school since we aren't privy to their internal processes of how they process and prioritize applications. I wouldn't read too much into either getting or not getting the email, but that's just me.
ETA: Especially since both of you chem and basilseal have great numbers for UVA.

My student contact came from someone who went to the same undergrad as me. They probably saw where I went to school and then had her at the ready as a volunteer to contact prospective students. I wouldn't worry too much about not receiving anything at this point.MumofCad wrote:

On that note, has anyone actually reached out to their student contact?

My student contact came from the same state as me. Haven't heard anything yet or reached out to contact.

Same--seemed like a hassle for them to tap out individual emails (not the fall part, just the part with the student and where she went) and use precious student resources if they were gonna reject you I guess, but damn it call me already.Tiago Splitter wrote:My student contact came from someone who went to the same undergrad as me. That's what I thought. It doesn't make much sense to me to tell a 0L to contact a UVA 2L from your home state/ UG about how great UVA is only to subequently reject you. Wishful thinking I supose tho; prolly means nothing.

Well I want to modify somewhat, I think it does probably mean you aren't an auto-reject. I can't imagine sending them out to people they have in that pile KWIM?

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Yep. I got that email a couple weeks ago. Was a 2L, super nice, went to my undergrad. I did actually have questions regarding what it was like coming from our undergrad to UVA, an entirely different experience, and she was fairly helpful. Figured it didn't hurt to show a genuine interest and, who knows, maybe the current students let someone know they were contacted?Tiago Splitter wrote:MumofCad wrote:

Did the same--I asked about employment prospects and vibrancy of the community.elibrarian wrote:Yep. I got that email a couple weeks ago. Was a 2L, super nice, went to my undergrad. Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Had some really great back and forth emails with the 2L from my same UG--who was reffered to me in that 'enjoy fall' email. He was really helpful and gave super detailed responses (5-7 paragraphs) on my questions regarding UVA's OGI and school culture. I think this has to be a positive. I'm not sure why UVA would spend their valuable resources (1) sending a semi customized email and (2) having a 2L offer detailed responses to a 0L that they are not at least seriously considering admitting. It would seem like a huge waste of time/resources otherwise. Alternatively, it could be a soft interview of sorts. I could be overthinking this though.

I would tend to agree, but if you are over thinking, at least it's on the positive side! Hope to see you in C'ville next year!

Got the scholarship letter yesterday. Its a minimum 2.3 to keep it, which is basically not failing I suppose.

ED application went complete!
But I just realized I have a "was" where there should really be an "is" in my PS... I can't even describe the horror... but I think technically it's just clunky and not incorrect given the context.
That's what I'm telling myself anyway.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

I feel your pain. I noticed that I left off a period somewhere in one of my optional essays. I am hoping it'll slip by/won't play too big of a factor in their decision.runplaystudy wrote:ED application went complete!

I'm beginning to realize that it is a TERRIBLE idea to go back and read submitted apps.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes. I told myself over and over DO NOT EVER READ YOUR PS ONCE SUBMITTED! I couldn't help myself though, and I caught errorsHopefully2012 wrote:I feel your pain. Schools are nice but don't throw away resources, particularly time. I would imagine it's a positive sign. Every school who reached out to me like that or was willing to have someone speak to me in depth admitted me, and I did not go 100 percent.

Kinda feeling a bit indignant with UVA because I haven't heard ANYTHING from them since my application went complete. I'm awesome, dammit. They should be falling over themselves to admit me.AriGoldButNicer wrote:Gotta disagree.MumofCad wrote:I wouldn't read too much into it.
