Gulp. Also, my condolences to all of the dings from today. I'm sure you guys will end up at some fantastic schools.anonperson2017 wrote:don't want to add more anxiety to the air, but last year's mid-march ding wave did last two dayskiwi50 wrote:Is the ding wave over yet?? Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
After reading the HLS blog, to me it doesn't seem like interviews "make or break" the decision. Seems like the faculty review that comes after the interview might have a lot to do with the JS1s that get rejected, along with the final adcom review where they look at the whole application again including interview notes. Just my thoughts, not necessarily correctCHyde wrote:Agreed. Looking at this person's LSN though, they've gotten into UChi and other similarly ranked schools with $$ so I'm going to assume nothing was devastating in their application. Then again, they might've tried to get fancy with H-specific LORs which bombed or H didn't like their international masters degree (no idea why they wouldn't).Kinch08 wrote:There are all sorts of reasons why someone with those numbers could get dinged early. My money is on "said something dumb in the Applicants thread." Let that be a lesson to you, kids.CHyde wrote:Yea...I saw that and was curious about whether or not that was an aberration or whether there was a significant sample. I know there are applicants with weaker numbers who are still in the fold. Curious as to their methodology for this particular ding wave.Pozzo wrote:Saw a 172/3.9 rejected on LSN today.CHyde wrote:Anybody above 25ths for both get rejected (I.E., 170+ & 3.7+)? PM me if you're not comfortable posting.
Based on some conventional wisdom regarding admits though, including Spivey's blog about applicant timelines, apps which are borderline are usually confined to a separate pile from "auto/near auto-rejects" for late game decisions. So it's somewhat confusing that this person is getting dinged right now, rather than late March, or even waitlisted. Most of the other rejects on LSN have applicants with numbers below both 25ths or are massive splitters.
I'm just going to keep speculating here in hopes of getting to a JS2 wave/avoiding my own ding...
Edited in light of new posts: Do we think interviews make that much of a difference? People have also posted here that they had "meh" interviews and still have gotten accepted. Sans being an arrogant sociopath, I am unsure how large of a role to consider the interview here.

Fairly certain that's the same thing - congrats! What time did you receive the email?katthegreat11 wrote:So after submitting in September and no word since, I just got an interview request. It's for a Skype interview with "a member of the admissions staff," is that different than a JS1?

That makes JS2 waves on those days highly unlikely then right?katthegreat11 wrote:Wow, okay then, that's unexpected! Just got it 5 minutes ago. There were about 10 slots open on the 15th and the 16th (20 slots total).

Tomorrow's a JS2 wave, confirmed.
Buckle up, buckaroos.
I can't think of a good Hamilton reference, but I, too, am into that musical.

People have been saying that a JS2 wave at this time of year almost always follows a ding wave within 48 hours. Also, Friday seems kind of too close to the end of March wave. I would give 4:1 odds on tomorrow.CHyde wrote:Or tomorrow's ding wave 2.0, and we get JS2 Friday?
