That one scares me- I have similar #s and am still at 2/7 UR1... Maybe it was YP- perhaps they didn't demonstrate a ton of Penn-specific interest? Pure speculation here.

I'm going to echo others' question re: if we're in mid-review, would submitting some sort of LOCI at this point be out of place?

If Penn and UVA game their numbers so hard why are they consistently ranked higher than peer schools that don't really rely on that to keep their rankings? You think some of that would eventually trickle down to employment prospects but if anything Penn is getting better.

Haha, thanks for the input. Is the "Why Penn?" essay one of the four optionals on their application, or is this more of an "unspoken" essay topic that Penn expects/welcomes?

I mean all else constant, if two peer schools have identical numbers but one isn't using median manipulation while the other is, doesn't that speak to other facets of the school that aren't up to par with its peers? If Penn stopped YP next cycle I assume its rankings/prestige would fall albeit slightly. Doesn't really make sense to me that a blatant data manipulation can actually benefit a school with seemingly no cost.

sort of. one of the options seems to be basically treated as a why penn - the one that asks what defines you/what you value, and how that aligns w/ penn's core philosophy. that's the one i started, and i had no trouble incorporating the "why penn" component.

I guess that depends on how much employers utilize the rankings/care about data manipulation. I doubt most employers are aware of what Penn is doing in any given admissions cycle.

In case my info helps anyone: dinged today, quite frankly fully expected. Complete 1/30, UR1 2/7, UR2 3/4, URM between 25th and median GPA/LSAT, no "Why Penn" essay. Best of luck to those really gunning for this school!!
