That one scares me- I have similar #s and am still at 2/7 UR1... Maybe it was YP- perhaps they didn't demonstrate a ton of Penn-specific interest? Pure speculation here.bryanjbay12 wrote:He/she was in at NYU and Columbia, but couldn't even get a WL from Penn?wealtheow wrote:that one 176 reject made me cringe when i saw it earlier. penn is cold as ice.bryanjbay12 wrote:From LSN today.

I'm going to echo others' question re: if we're in mid-review, would submitting some sort of LOCI at this point be out of place?

Ahh for someone who didn't write a YP, should I be freaking out? Should I send one in now mid-review (UR1 since 2/7)?wealtheow wrote:ikr? maybe her why penn had a typobryanjbay12 wrote:He/she was in at NYU and Columbia, but couldn't even get a WL from Penn?wealtheow wrote:that one 176 reject made me cringe when i saw it earlier. penn is cold as ice.bryanjbay12 wrote:From LSN today.

If Penn and UVA game their numbers so hard why are they consistently ranked higher than peer schools that don't really rely on that to keep their rankings? You think some of that would eventually trickle down to employment prospects but if anything Penn is getting better.

seriously, though, if you can craft a worthwhile one - why not? it looks like plenty of people in this thread have sent off essays/locis after submitting. i have one drafted, and was thinking of polishing it and sending it in, but i'm not sure...

Not sure what you are getting at. How would gaming their numbers trickle down to employment prospects? Haha, thanks for the input. Is the "Why Penn?" essay one of the four optionals on their application, or is this more of an "unspoken" essay topic that Penn expects/welcomes?wealtheow wrote:i find this question amusing in light of your username.BetterLateThanNever1 wrote:

Re: Penn c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 cycle)
I mean all else constant, if two peer schools have identical numbers but one isn't using median manipulation while the other is, doesn't that speak to other facets of the school that aren't up to par with its peers? If Penn stopped YP next cycle I assume its rankings/prestige would fall albeit slightly. Doesn't really make sense to me that a blatant data manipulation can actually benefit a school with seemingly no cost.bryanjbay12 wrote:Not sure what you are getting at. Re: Penn c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 cycle)
sort of. one of the options seems to be basically treated as a why penn - the one that asks what defines you/what you value, and how that aligns w/ penn's core philosophy. that's the one i started, and i had no trouble incorporating the "why penn" component.BetterLateThanNever1 wrote:Haha, thanks for the input. Re: Penn c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 cycle)
I guess that depends on how much employers utilize the rankings/care about data manipulation. I doubt most employers are aware of what Penn is doing in any given admissions cycle.aboutmydaylight wrote:I mean all else constant, if two peer schools have identical numbers but one isn't using median manipulation while the other is, doesn't that speak to other facets of the school that aren't up to par with its peers? lol hello there. Will send in an LOCI later today. I'd definitely strongly consider a levy so I wish they would accept me and send a full ride my wayscoobers wrote:CONGRATS VUTHY AND ARROW4CHRIST (you were the two who got in, right? i dont remember)

I'm pretending that they are taking extra time because they need to decide to extend a levy invite to someone with a below-median GPAt-14orbust wrote:lol hello there. I'd send in an LOCI but I don't really have much new to report or say outside of my optional essay :/

In case my info helps anyone: dinged today, quite frankly fully expected. Complete 1/30, UR1 2/7, UR2 3/4, URM between 25th and median GPA/LSAT, no "Why Penn" essay. Best of luck to those really gunning for this school!!
