I hope that the 6/3 updates mean that they're not ready to accept those people who got an update but that they're still deliberating on the people without recent updates?! =/
Also URM here but my status checker was last updated on 4/15, which is when I received the reserve-list decision. I sent my one-line LOCI immediately after getting the 4/15 e-mail. I did not receive the more recent (month of May) reserve list inquiry.
Just sent my second LOCI; I made it into three paragraphs this time and a lot more expressive of my interest. I'll definitely announce if I get any news in the coming days. Cornell is my top choice and has been for two cycles =(. I was put on reserve both times.
P.S. edited for clarity and to contribute something not as useless as my first post.

Even though I'm part of the 6/3 updates and hoping for the best, I would wager that they've rendered a decision on that group.chraruce wrote:I hope that the 6/3 updates mean that they're not ready to accept those people who got an update but that they're still deliberating on the people without recent updates?! =/

If so, I would guess WL based on the size.LRGhost wrote:Even though I'm part of the 6/3 updates and hoping for the best, I would wager that they've rendered a decision on that group.chraruce wrote:I hope that the 6/3 updates mean that they're not ready to accept those people who got an update but that they're still deliberating on the people without recent updates?! =/
Unless this just means they have reached various decisions on the individual people in this group.

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Honestly, I think the 6/3 update means (1) (at best) that they took a second look at the file and indicated so on the system or (2) (more likely) that they have done some periodic administrative/bookkeeping operation with those updated files. The reserve list seems to be dragged for a while and then turned into a waitlist (a list comprised of a smaller number of people than the reserve list) towards the middle of the summer, which is also dragged indefinitely. At least, this was my experience last year.
In fact, I just went through my old e-mails and it looks like they updated me on 6/21/'12 about my placement from the reserve list into the summer waiting list.
Edit: add information.

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I honestly did not pay that close attention to TLS and to updates to status checker (my job was and is a bit too demanding for that), but if we assume that the timelines used by the school are similar from year to year, then there might be a period of 2 to 3 weeks of silence for those people who received the 6/3 update but who will later be placed on the summer waiting list. This is all speculation of course.LRGhost wrote:Do you mean that last year there were updates to files but then a long period of silence?chraruce wrote:Honestly, I think the 6/3 update means (1) (at best) that they took a second look at the file and indicated so on the system or (2) (more likely) that they have done some periodic administrative/bookkeeping operation with those updated files. One way to find out and discredit my answer would be to see if the "Cornell c/o 2015 Applicants" saw reserve list --> summer waiting list movement before 6/21/'12.

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I just briefly looked through the thread "Cornell c/o 2015 Applicants". The first report of someone being placed on the summer waiting list (from the reserve) was on 6/21/'12. Again, assuming similar timelines for this year, I think that for those that got the 6/3 update, and who will also be waitlisted, you can expect about 3 weeks of silence. It looks like Cornell sent the first waitlist e-mails on 6/21/'12 and also sent a few more in subsequent days last year.LRGhost wrote:Thank you.chraruce wrote:I honestly did not pay that close attention to TLS and to updates to status checker (my job was and is a bit too demanding for that), but if we assume that the timelines used by the school are similar from year to year, then there might be a period of 2 to 3 weeks of silence for those people who received the 6/3 update but who will later be placed on the summer waiting list. I would bet that if they take people from the reserve list, that those people will hear earlier than 6/21. This year is a pretty different admission cycle from last year because of the shrinking pool of applicants. I'm not sure that they took even a single person off of the waitlist/reserve list last year.
This feels like I'm playing the lottery. Anyone have any idea what our odds are? (i.e. some approximation of [available seats] / [reserve list size])

Reading through pages ~180 from last year, there was Reserve movement around the first week of June. I didn't get past June 11th before deciding it makes no difference at all in estimating anything really.

Wow, that is a lot of reading! I started from the end of the thread and worked my way back. Ended up reading only about 4 pages of the threadLRGhost wrote:Reading through pages ~180 from last year, there was Reserve movement around the first week of June. For those that think the 6/3 update means wait list, why would they not have sent a mass of WL decisions today?

I don't think it means WL but I know I'm getting waitlisted.

What's the difference between being in the "reserve" and being waitlisted? Does one actually exist?

I'm guessing for Cornell its a pre-waitlist that is larger and will likely undergo some cuts before becoming an official waitlist whether it be from withdrawal or rejections.
For the record I haven't gotten an update, but I am really unsure whether that is a good or bad thing?

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I was thinking those with an update just happen to be the people who received an email from Cornell stating they received your continued interest (when they asked if you wished to stay on the waitlist or not). They seem to be fairly slow at updates, so I figured it was them finally showing that your file was updated with the information provided.

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
From what I understand, Reserve is where they pool all the applicants for consideration later in the game when they don't yet want to make a final decision. Then, after the batch is full, they will start pulling applicants out with a reject, admit, or wait-list decision.TheMostDangerousLG wrote:What's the difference between being in the "reserve" and being waitlisted?
