I think they've been dinging people, so a hold means there's still hope.splitmuch wrote:So what exactly does a hold mean? I was assuming I was just going to be outright rejected, should I take this as the faintest glimmer of hope? Or do they hold everyone and not really issue denials?

Held just now as well.
Huh.
Assumed I was a goner, sent seat deposit to UConn already.
Not getting my hopes up.

Sorry about the hold... and it's a shame to see that you couldn't apply to other schoolsElvisAaron wrote:Held just now as well. Huh. Assumed I was a goner, sent seat deposit to UConn already. Not getting my hopes up.
On another note, JR- now that holds are out, could you please move on to the JR2s? ... thanks!

Not entirely sure, but I think they go out at the same/similar times.mcweanis wrote:Anyone know whether the held and dings are sent in batches - same time stamp - or no? Aka do I need to keep refreshing all day..

Seems like things have been in batches before, but this week also seems pretty different.

Me too. I'm not really sure what to think, since my stats don't make me a very competitive candidate.champsound wrote:Was bracing for a hold/WL/ding. But instead... silence

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Anyone else simply exhausted? I am. I am on hold at HLS and columbia, am still waiting on anything from SLS, YLS, and NYU. Maybe it is because my married-ness translates to an inability to wait for getting off a waitlist or what not, but I am starting to panic about my April 15th deadlines. Anyone have any strategies they recommend for coping with the mounting anxieties? I am losing hope- they have had my apps for over 6 months and my numbers and non-URM status indicate that they should have dinged me a long long time ago even though I have very strong softs. Thoughts?

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
+1, my only hope was that they needed my LSAT to maintain their numbers with the decline in apps, but looking here I think they have succeeded in that goal w/o me...snowkat wrote:Me too. Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
I hit this point about a week or so ago. What worked for me? Making plans to go elsewhere and letting myself get excited about doing so. Having your plan shot to shit if Harvard calls in April/May/June would be a welcome inconvenience, and in the meantime you'll get some peace.nadopretz wrote:Anyone else simply exhausted? I am. Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Can someone plz help clarify this process for me? I know i'm going to sound really new but what exactly is 'JR'?
Here's my situation... applied right on the deadline, got an e-mail last week (march 17) that my application was complete. Why such a delay (Feb 1 - Mar 17)? Is that a horrible sign? Should I just be waiting for a ding now or is there a possibility of getting JR? (Still don't actually know what that means but seems to have something to do with an interview?)
If someone could help clear this up for me and give me your opinions on my situation that'd be super helpful!

I've done the same thing. Also on hold for Columbia and now HLS, but am extremely happy with a scholarship offer elsewhere. As hard as it seems, just try and forget about the schools you're waiting on.ElvisAaron wrote:I hit this point about a week or so ago. What worked for me? Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
JR1 = invited for phone interview with Josh Rubenstein (JR) of Admissions. Around 1000-1200 of these are granted every year. In addition, you must have a JR1 first to get a JR2.jeng wrote:Can someone plz help clarify this process for me? I know i'm going to sound really new but what exactly is 'JR'?

JR2 = second phone call from JR indicating acceptance. Around 800-850 of the 1000-1200 get these.
Also, I don't think you should be worried about your complete date. Applying right around the deadline probably meant that your application was in a huge batch that could have slowed down paperwork processing at the office. Hope this helps!

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
IDK if I'd call it exhausted, but waiting on these last few schools has been rough (admittedly, in that "what a nice first-world problem to have" way). I've been trying so hard to stay positive and had been going into every Monday so excited that it might be THE DAY. I didn't even have LOCI drafted up and ready to send the day I got the hold, such was my optimism that I would be one of the handful admitted with a crap LSAT. Lately, and especially since the hold, I've just been kind of bitchy and cynical and it's making it a little hard for me to get excited about CLS, which I realize is completely absurd. I hope my NYC trip next week changes my thinking!nadopretz wrote:Anyone else simply exhausted? I am. I am on hold at HLS and columbia, am still waiting on anything from SLS, YLS, and NYU. Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Based on here and LSN, I'm starting to think that twitter post I saw was a cruel joke.
Not that I would be getting an admit call anyway. Evidence for more JR1s coming out is even more slim. Am just hoping for a hold now to save my dignity a bit.

Or maybe all the people getting admit calls are too busy celebrating to update TLS or LSN. I am having high anxiety just waiting to hear something! When I see the (1) in my inbox I'm more anxious to see if it's a reply on this thread than if it's a hold or rejection email.pkt63 wrote:Based on here and LSN, I'm starting to think that twitter post I saw was a cruel joke.

Held today. I'm really surprised because thought I'd be an auto-reject.
