Yeah, looking at the numbers on LSN, not that many people applied in late December and January, relative to October and November. It also looks to me as if the LSAT and GPA numbers for late December and January applications are a little lower, on average.yepyepyep wrote:Might be because they haven't gone through the holds yet/are waiting to finish the rest non-holds before holds, and the numbers go down closer to the deadline.sharktankdean wrote:Are the js1 batches getting smaller? JS1 e-mail batches got smaller because I hear there are a total of 7 spots remaining for this year's class. (

Congrats! When did you go UR? I'm amazed they've made it to January applications.Byzantine wrote:Congrats king!kingofspain wrote:JS1 email! Whoa.

it would be interesting to see the LSAT/GPA averages for "early" applicants vs. "late" applicants at different schools. i feel like i may have really sabotaged myself by waiting until january to apply

Thanks hypothalamus.hypothalamus wrote:There is no UR email, just a status update. Then, some time after the status update, you will get the Complete email. You're probably okay given the reduced number of applications and the large number of holds here. I don't think you sabotaged yourself.Geneva wrote:it would be interesting to see the LSAT/GPA averages for "early" applicants vs. "late" applicants at different schools. i feel like i may have really sabotaged myself by waiting until january to apply

Thank you! My numbers are super low for Harvard as it stands, but I'm hoping that "soft" factors will make the difference. I plan to retake the LSAT in June if I get waitlisted instead of rejected outright...yepyepyep wrote:You're probably okay given the reduced number of applications and the large number of holds here. On the topic of holds... I asked this in the Held thread, but they're meanies over there and didn't answer my question --
Do people get held at this point in the cycle? If I submitted two months ago and haven't heard anything and they obviously don't have a decision for me, will they hold me or just make me wait forever for a decision, without any official notification of a hold?

Based upon last year's thread, there's still time for you to be held. The lastest ones I saw went up to March.

So basically, I can expect either a hold or a decision of some sort soon? Or two months not enough time to whine and expect something, anything?

I am not in the position to tell you to expect anything. I went from October to January without any news.

Re: Harvard 2012 applicants (class of 2015)
I was bored and anxious enough to just spend 10 minutes cutting and pasting from LSN to Excel. Here's the data:Geneva wrote:it would be interesting to see the LSAT/GPA averages for "early" applicants vs. "late" applicants at different schools. i feel like i may have really sabotaged myself by waiting until january to apply
Harvard LSN Applications, by Month
09 51 apps 171.5 LSAT average
10 100 apps 171.2 LSAT average
11 107 apps 171.5 LSAT average
12 42 apps 170.6 LSAT average
01 44 apps 167.8 LSAT average
So, applications peaked in November, and the January LSAT average is almost 4 points below the November average, and over 5 points below Harvard's median.
Clarificatory note: these are all the Harvard applications posted on LSN (not just the acceptances), grouped into months by the 'Sent' date.

Sorry, this is not just acceptances, it's all applications, sorted into months by the 'Sent' date on LSN. I'll edit the above post to make that clearer.Doorkeeper wrote:Maybe, as it seems to be the case this year, Harvard historically holds URM candidates with weaker numbers until later in the cycle to see how their diversity numbers are unfolding?AntipodeanPhil wrote:I was bored and anxious enough to just spend 10 minutes cutting and pasting from LSN to Excel. I know the CW is that applying in say... November is better than applying in January in all cases. But I think there is probably a case to be made for the strategic value of a January app if you have a stellar LSAT. Coming across a fantastic score in an otherwise bleak landscape of below 25th apps could be a powerful advantage for the applicant.
Then again, probably just wishful thinking. See stats in profile for wishful thinking in action.

Re: Harvard 2012 applicants (class of 2015)
You have to remember that just because an application was submitted in Oct/Nov doesn't mean that the applicant got word before January, i.e. plenty of people with 173-176s were held this year. So maybe it might help in the initial review of your application, but I doubt it considering the quality of applicants being held simultaneously.Syme wrote:This is incredibly interesting.

This is awesome! Thank you:) I can't wait to see the data for acceptances.
