that's shocking. Usually, YP is a WL rather than an actual deny, in case the applicant later indicates that the school is a top choice.

Seems like all the dings so far have been for people who didn't get the email. Is that really the case? Haven't gotten a decision yet from the ASW, but I haven't gotten the email and it seems like some people with my complete date did and some didn't. #scared

Just checked status checker: Rejected. Received status checker on 12/1 and did NOT receive the email. Sad to have my first rejection of the cycle, but happy to have one less thing to check everyday Good luck to those of you still waiting/in the running!

Guys, I know it's hard but don't take a rejection personally. FWIW, it doesn't mean they didn't like you or you wouldn't have done great here. Michigan prides itself in the diversity of its class. That means they can't take all 176/4.0's with similar life experiences, etc. If you'd have applied before all of the people with X experiences, many of you would have gotten in. Sometimes its just the luck of the draw/order.

There needs to be something in the thread title like "x days without a post about the frequency of Michigan's status checker updates."


Also, regarding the whole YP thing, I think Jam + blowhard are probably right. If you're being yield protected, the school would offer you a spot on the wait list; it wouldn't reject you. The more likely explanation for high numbered candidates being denied admission is that, for whatever reason, their applications lacked some specific quality that UM's adcomm was looking for. Alternatively, it's possible that these candidates DID have some specific quality/background that UM may have been looking for earlier in the cycle, but the adcomm already offered a sufficient number of offers to other earlier applicants who also demonstrated those qualities/backgrounds.

But who knows, really? I know that the whole "you were YPed" thing may seem comforting to people, but it also seems a bit disrespectful (albeit indirectly) to those who have been admitted. FWIW, I have not been admitted.

Also rejected. 11/18 status checker. Dean Y's (or whatever her name is) blog post the email meaning nothing was misleading at best, downright deceitful at worst. It kind of makes me like her even less than had she written nothing at all. Or maybe I'm just bitter
