Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
In my particular case, I wasn't set on any single law school. I don't really have a feel for the type of law I want to go into yet, and was equally excited about Columbia and NYU because I'd heard great things about both. NYU accepted me three weeks after I applied and has made me feel very wanted throughout this entire process. I've heard nothing from Columbia save for a fall grade request on February 1, and all it's done has made me less excited about the school, especially in comparison to the enthusiastic response I got from NYU. It doesn't make any sense to me about why they're doing this- I have the numbers to get in.

You also have the numbers to get into YHS... Which might be exactly why you haven't heard a thing.ssteiner wrote:In my particular case, I wasn't set on any single law school. Almost exactly the way I've felt about this whole thing, but strangely it's made me want to be accepted at Columbia even more. Not even sure if I want to go to Columbia, I just want them to want me back. They're playing the whole hard-to-get routine, and it's working.ssteiner wrote:In my particular case, I wasn't set on any single law school. Don't get me wrong--I still want to get in and all--but I have to agree with the above. I've visited NYU, loved it, received a decent scholarship. It's been a very pleasant several months. On the other hand, CU has ignored me since November and I feel like if they're this disinterested in my application they won't be giving me merit aid anyway.
At this point, I just wish they'd tell us why we're the forgotten. lol If it is actually a soft YP thing, I wish CU would let H and S know that they think I should attend because Dean Deal and JS have yet to arrive at the same conclusion.

Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Looking at the 2010-2011 cycle on LSN is pretty depressing. It looks like there was a small blip of good news at the end of March (3/28/2011), but it was all bad news after that.
Here’s another update from the Google Doc. The average LSAT score for held applicants is a 170.3; the average GPA of held applicants is a 3.76. The average LSAT score of “the forgotten” is a 170.0; the average GPA of “the forgotten” is a 3.67.
The average LSAT score for non-URM held applicants is a 172.6; the average GPA of non-URM held applicants is a 3.78. The average LSAT score of non-URM “forgotten” is a 172.0; the average GPA of non-URM “forgotten” is a 3.77.
Now, just for reference, according to the spreadsheet, the average LSAT score for admitted students is a 172, and the average GPA of admitted students if a 3.89. According to USNWR, the median LSAT of admitted students last year was a 172, and the median GPA of admitted students was a 3.72. That gives you some sense of the spreadsheet’s accuracy. Given the sample size, you can’t take it too seriously.

Maybe because we are getting closer and closer to the time of the year when applicants need to make their final decisions, Columbia wants to let you know ASAP/with enough time left to choose themssteiner wrote:Congrats! Wonder why they started doing notifications by email...
