FYI, the people in the financial aid office said that you don’t have to send a deposit until 2 weeks after you receive your financial aid letter.

That's all well and good, but my other seat deposits are due on or a bit before May 1--and those other schools aren't going to extend their dates simply because I'm still waiting on Cornell.

Well, sure, but who wants to burn bridges?

Sending an email will not burn a nonexistent bridge with a random staff member in Cornell's admissions office.

I'm pretty sure if you send a particularly nasty email you might burn some kind of bridge. Especially if you decide you want to transfer or something later.

You just never know.

here is a thought experiment:

1) i have not received a decision yet.
2) today is april 12
3) this school's 1st seat deposit must be postmarked 4/15
4) i have not been informed by e-mail
5) assuming an acceptance packet, which would include this seat deposit form, would be sent after notification by email

thus, i will not accepted in time to send in a seat deposit--final conclusion: i will not be accepted.

subsequently, i should feel comfortable sending in my seat deposit for another school.

is this solid enough?

There are plenty of people who get accepted after the deposit deadline (and I don't mean WL-Accepted). That being said, you are unlikely to be accepted at this point (because of how late it is, not because of when the deposit deadline is) and it would be stupid not to put a deposit somewhere else due to the high likelihood that you aren't getting into Cornell.

were this any other school, i would be inclined to agree with this. however, cornell has been slow this entire admissions process, and it is basically an open secret that they are way behind in their applications. if i were still waiting on usc for example i would expect to hear bad news, but until very close to may i wouldn't say that the likelihood of someone still waiting on cornell getting in is low.

Me.. and I've had at least 2 UR dates, possibly even 3 (one that I missed). Complete 3/04.

If it makes you feel better I don't think the fact that you aren't UR has anything to do with your chances. I am still Complete 3/3, and while I don't want to sound like a jagweed, I kind of feel like I should be an auto-admit. 3.5/177 and both of my parents went to Cornell Law and have donated regularly ever since graduation. I just think they are a hot mess at admissions.

Having decided to attend a different school, I finally just threw up my hands and withdrew without ever receiving a decision. No confirmation, but status check as of yesterday now reads "Your application has been withdrawn." I submitted late-ish (late December/early January if I recall) but by no means ridiculously late.

I do declare, Cornell, I wish I had saved the $12 I spent to submit my application to you and used it to buy an extra sushi roll when I went out to dinner last night.

Why are they such a hot mess? Is this just the world's weirdest YP strategy? Just wait until everyone with better options has already deposited elsewhere and withdrawn their application before rendering > 50% of your decisions?

I'm going to be attending a different school, but if Cornell had just given me a decision earlier, they would've been a real contender. Cornell was my first dream school.

GODDAMMIT, Cornell, at least review my freakin' file. Still just complete 3/4. I wish I could sign off on Cornell as many here have already done, but it seems the longer they make me wait, the more I want in.
