568 (min) means AT LEAST this many JS1s are expected to have been scheduled through the 1st week of March?

If so, why "min?" When could the other JS1s (beyond min) possibly be scheduled?
568 (min) means that there have been at least 568 interview slots open. I don't think all of them have been filled (probably ~8 weren't), but I also know that I missed some along the way. Every once in a while I forget to check the scheduler, so I may have missed a few slots (I'd guess between 20-50). Hence the min.

whosinthehousejc wrote:Finally, do we have an idea of how this figure compares to last year's pace? Seems like 568/1200 is a bit slow... last year's final big JS2 wave (as per LSN) was 3/9, after which a few JS2s trickled in over the rest of the cycle, right?

What else do you think we can infer from these figures?

Thanks HT, you da man (edit: OR WOMAN).
I have no idea how this compares to previous years. The number does seem very low to me too, but we have no data for previous years, so we could be right on track. That said, I'd expect things to pick up over the next few weeks.

In 2013 they gave out 858 offers. At their current pace, they'll have given out ~800 JS1's by April 1st. We know that not every JS1 -> JS2, so they probably need about 1,000 JS1's to fill out the class. If they want to hit that number, they'll need to start having 80+ interviews per week. Even if my numbers are wrong, they'll need to conduct more interviews, so we should see more movement soon.
Cool, thanks HT.

For what it's worth, the HLS c/o 2018 Facebook group has ~240 members. The HLS c/o 2017 group has 704 members. We've got a long way to go.

Thanks alot HT. Do you happen to know the answer to the earlier q regarding the most recently admitted JS1? I interviewed 1/20 and was under the impression they hadn't yet got that far, so I'm particularly invested haha

Great info, thanks, HT.
As for the most recent JS1 decision dates, this graph seems to show Jan 15 (dinged).

The most recent wave (read - interview requests) to get acceptances was 1/8. However there's variance when people actually get the invitation and then schedule their interview. They haven't got to JS1 invitations on 1/26 and onwards.

I'm in the same boat as you and I'm pretty sure the latest interview to get admitted was 1/16 according to posts in the forum during the last wave. Doesn't seem like they reviewed any interviews that happened after MLK weekend (week of 1/20).

This is right, latest admit from interview date was 1/16 per what's been reported.

Hoping this changes today

my guess is sometime after the next js2 wave, or at least on lsn it looks like it's usually 2 weeks between rejection waves

I hope so. I project that both JS1s, JS2s, and Dings will happen before the end of the month. But I think that's the general consensus, right? I don't think they'd make any of those groups only have one Feb wave.

Heard a lot about JS2 waves, but any predictions about when a JS1 wave is coming? Went complete on the 29th but no word yet on an interview and starting to get worried, which may be a bit premature :s

Definitely a little premature. I went complete early Jan, and got the js1 invite and had my interview early Feb.

Idk if it's premature (probably a bit, but who really knows?), but regardless we'll probably see another wave by next Mon.

IDK if this has been discussed or not but is it possible that Harvard could be admitting fewer people this year? with the drop in applicants and all. just a thought

While many schools have reduced class sizes over the last few years, Harvard has maintained a class size of ~560. While that's no guarantee that they won't shrink this year, I think it's probable that they'll maintain.

As I mentioned before, HLS c/o 2018 FB group is currently at 240, and past years' groups ('15/'16/'17) have maxed out between 650-700. Assuming FB participation among admit pools is equal across cycles, that means we're just over 1/3 through admits. Hang tight, we still have a ways to go.

ETA: for clarity and to add stuph.

True. A good thing to add however is the fact that people may not want to join the Facebook group until after the cycle is completely over. Just like how people may not want to report on LSN until after the cycle is over.

Edit: I would think that these instances would have a negligible effect on things tho

I'd give it a few more weeks. With all the snow days and holidays, admissions is probably swamped. They'll get to it eventually.

As usual, I have nothing substantive, but I do have an anecdote. I was speaking to an admin at my undergrad recently, and he was telling me about how more students than usual had dropped out. The number was only ~8, but as he put it, "Educating them costs the school nothing. Them leaving cost us $400k."

So, no, I don't think Harvard will decrease their class size. Not while they don't have to.

I would think because declining medians is an overall issue at every school and not Harvard specific it really wouldn't matter enough to make Harvard reduce class size.
