The bimodal curve has been around for years. Most grads go to small firms, it's not just biglaw or PI. The data is based on reports that schools collect from grads.

LST explains the NALP data but it's pretty much exactly what it says. https://www.lstreports.com/guides/NALP-Data-Terms/

It's a very simple calculation.

Not news. I brought it up in response to the SoFi income vs. debt article, which used average income vs. average debt. "Average starting income" for law jobs isn't very useful, given the bimodal distribution -- graduates are going to tend to fall widely on either side of those reported averages.

That methodology sheet is good, but I'm still left wondering why their full data table shows 36,530 graduates with a known employment status, but the salary graph for the year only has ~22,000 respondents.

So reading through previous year's admissions threads for data I've notiiced something that kinda peeves me -

'Just withdrew, $**k is back in the pot!'

I assume intentions are good, but don't schools calculate offers assuming that many many people like this person are going to withdraw? So if a school has like $4 mil in schollies/discounts budgeted to give out are they gonna probably offer around ($4mil/yield rate)? I realize that would be the high estimate. Maybe if a significant number of the high scholarships are dropped then money could 'free up', but I don't see it as a realistic occurrence. I don't wanna put a damper on those posts, but they do seem kinda pointless...

It's great that students are getting this data and looking at it carefully. Schools misrepresented employment data for years and people had (still have)greatly overinflated views of what grads earn.

I think there may be a number of people who report status but don't report salary for whatever reason. I also don't know if they count unemployed as $0. If you are curious someone at LST would likely know more. I would email them or PM them here.

New Spivey data up, but I didn't see anything too surprising in it. Thoughts?

Were there one or more tests this cycle with no 169 score? The jump in 170s with the drop in 169s is really odd.

I have tweet notifications from Dave Killoran on and I don't recall ever seeing that (but I could be wrong)

I think this is still a good thing overall, I wish my number was still down, but the top band is down overall which will hopefully help.

so what's that the numerical difference between 170 scorers this time last year and now?

Being from Kansas, saying that Ohio is the Midwest is silly.

I hope the decrease in AAs combined with my okay LSAT (in a dropping score) means my GPA won't kill me at top schools lol

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
